Has ‘Jeopardy!’ Gotten More Difficult This Season?

The popular game show Jeopardy! is getting called out by some fans on Reddit who believe the show has gotten more difficult.

Do you think that Jeopardy! questions have become easier are more difficult over time? Reddit user u/throw-away3105 shared their thoughts in a recent post titled, “Jeopardy! seems harder for me this season.”

“Just a rant… I’ve been watching Jeopardy! regularly since September 2017,” the post begins. “Statistically, I’ve been doing better each season except for this one right now. I don’t do Coryat scores, I just count the number of clues I get right.”

The creator of the post says that they attribute their difficulties to all of the guest host changes in the past year. The show has been rotating through guest hosts since the death of longtime host Alex Trebek. He died at the age of 80 after a battle with stage IV pancreatic cancer.

“For me, I think it’s a combination of a few things: Alex Trebek died. I heard Alex Trebek contributed a lot to how the clues were written. I haven’t fully adapted to constant hosting changes. How about you guys? Is Jeopardy! getting easier? Harder? The same?”

‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Respond to Reddit Post

As you can probably imagine, Jeopardy! fans all have their own opinions on whether or not the show’s questions have gotten easier or harder. One fan says that some days are good for them. Others, not so much.

“I think it really depends on the day. Some days are better for me than others. For example, I play the Amazon version. On Monday, I got eight out of 12 clothes correct. On Wednesday of this week, I only got three. I haven’t figured out a good way to track dollar amounts yet, so I average out my scores on that each week to see how well I’m doing.”

Meanwhile, a fellow Redditor agreed that they have noticed a change in the way the clues are written since Trebek’s passing.

“Saw an immediate drop in the quality of clues after Alex’s death. Throughout all the guest hosts and even recently with Mayim at the helm, I thought the clues were cheesier and punnier and, well, easier. The category names seemed like that too.”

Another fan of the show noted how the contestants have all adopted a similar strategy to that of Jeopardy! legend James Holzhauer.

“Plus since James’ run all of the contestants seem to adopt his strategy of starting with $1000 clues first building a base for the first daily double. So even my brain still oversimplifies the first set of questions and then overthinks the latter lower dollar amount clues. Arthur Chu did, James perfected it, and everyone is chasing the dragon.”
