Here Are America’s Favorite Christmas Movies Broken Down By State

Merry Christmas Eve! It’s another year of staying inside for lots of folks, as new variants of COVID continue to cause spikes in cases. Luckily, there’s a joyful catalog of Christmas movies to choose from to keep your home full of that good festive energy all holiday long. Can’t decide which ones to watch? Not sure what everyone will like? One data marketing agency examined the most popular movies popping up on search engines over the holiday. Keep reading to find out which Christmas movie is the most popular in your state!

‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas’

A touching tale of the people of Whoville, “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” is the most popular pick for many southern states.

The story follows a reclusive green creature who’s seeking revenge for being bullied. The tale is quirky, and a refreshing fun break from cheesy joy-filled flicks. Additionally, it also provides a nice message to young ones about the effects of bullying, and why it’s important to treat everyone around you with kindness.

In addition to the search data results, social media also regularly lights up with tweets about the Grinch during the holiday season.

This film took the crown for most popular according to TOP data in West Virginia, Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. Yeehaw!

‘Home Alone’

An absolute classic, the 90s family comedy “Home Alone” seems to be the popular pick for most states. The tale follows the hijinx of 8-year-old Kevin McCallister, as his family mistakenly leaves him behind when they leave for the holidays.

When two men try to break into the house, it’s up to Kevin to keep his home safe, despite being all alone. He throws booby traps and pranks at the con men to throw them off their game. “Home Alone” is the most popular movie for seemingly half the country. Data shows the film coming out on top in Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Oklahoma, Virginia, New York, Florida, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Delaware, and Washington D.C.

One online blogger offered a funny tweet about the film this year. Why didn’t the parents in Home Alone simply call their kid and check on him? Don’t tell me the phone lines were down. Kevin orders a pizza at one point in the film. The phones were obviously working. A devastating plot hole,” the tweet jokes.

The data shows some surprising information, too. “It’s A Wonderful Life” only came out on top for one state: Maine. The same is true for Elf, which came up as most popular in Idaho. Tim Allen’s “The Santa Clause” came out on top in Nevada.
