Hoda Kotb Recently Opens Up About How the COVID-19 Pandemic Has Impacted the Adoption of Her Third Child

During a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live! With Andy Cohen, Hoda discusses how COVID-19 has impacted the ongoing process of her third child’s adoption. “You know what’s funny about the adoption stuff that’s going on now? Apparently, it’s really slow during this time, during COVID,” the Today co-host explains.

Kotb was notably surprised by the observation and thought the process would be completely different. “They said a lot of people who maybe normally would feel like it would be something they wanted to do, have a child and give it to someone to raise because they couldn’t, are holding onto things because don’t have anything at that moment.”

Hoda previously adopted her daughters Haley Joy and Hope Catherine in 2017 and 2019 with her fiancé Joel Schiffman. Prior to the first adoption, Hoda underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery for breast cancer. At the time, she allowed Today cameras to follow her through her treatments.

Hoda Talks How Her Family Grew Closer During the COVID-19 Lockdowns

Also during her 2020 interview with Parade, Hoda discusses how her family has grown closer despite the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. “There’s something sweet and charming and almost throwback about the way life has become,” Kotb explains. She says the family sits down and now each together. They also learn about each other and having little moments that she would probably miss without the pandemic.

Hoda further then notes that she and her family did Zoom dinners with her mom by putting the iPad n a chair and chatting about the same things they always talked about. She also explains how she developed some healthy habits.

“I listen to motivational speeches when I run. The Masterclass app has people who are really great at things. There’s something great about listening to somebody who has such a passion for something that they can’t sleep,” Hoda reveals.

In regards to finding a support system during such a challenging period, Hoda reflects on the saying “You’re the sum total of the five people you spend the most time with. So choose wisely.” She also says that if someone is always negative, there’s a time to say, “Not today.”
