‘Home Improvement’ Star Zachary Ty Bryan Pleads Guilty to Domestic Violence Charges

A judge sentenced Zachery Ty Bryan to three years probation Tuesday as part of a plea deal he agreed to with an Oregon court. The former child actor had faced multiple charges of domestic abuse related to an incident with his girlfriend.

The former Home Improvement star pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts for menacing and assault in the fourth degree. A spokesperson at the Lane County District Attorney’s office in Eugene, Oregon, told Entertainment Tonight that the charges constituted domestic violence.

The case dates back to October. Police said Bryan and his girlfriend were arguing over phone charging cords.

A statement released by the court said of the case against Zachery Ty Bryan:

“As a part of his sentence, he will be on probation to the court for three years with multiple conditions imposed, one of which will be to attend and complete a batterers intervention program,” the statement concludes.”

Zachery Ty Bryan Faced Felony Strangulation Charge

At his arraignment, Bryan faced two counts of menacing, two counts of assault in the fourth degree, coercion, felony strangulation, harassment and interfering with making a report. As part of the plea deal, the court dismissed one count of assault and menacing, as well as the more serious felony strangulation charge. The judge also dismissed the other charges.

The incident that happened with his girlfriend came two weeks after Zachery Ty Bryan broke up with his wife, Carly. He and his wife share four children, including twin daughters.

TMZ reported that neighbors called the cops after witnessing an alternation at an apartment complex. Police officers found Zachery Ty Bryan sitting on the ground outside the apartment. Police found the girlfriend at a nearby apartment. She told police she tried to call them, but that Zachery Ty Bryan yanked the phone from her.

Zachery Ty Bryan is 39. He played the oldest son, Brad, on Home Improvement. The show ran from 1991-99 and was ranked among the country’s top 10 most popular for seven of its eight years on the air. The show launched the career of Tim Allen.

He saw more work as a child star. As an adult actor, Zachery Ty Bryan was in the movie Fast and Furious, Tokyo Drift. That was in 2006. He hasn’t had a significant acting credit since he played Thor in the TV movie Thor, Hammer of the Gods.
