Tim Allen loves cars. The “Home Improvement” star makes no bones about it. Yet getting one type of car in his collection proved difficult.
Allen loves showing off his cars, too, when he gets a chance. On April 3, Petersen Automotive Museum released the first part of a tour of Allen’s automobiles.
He starts talking about the Ford GT, specifically, about 18 minutes into this video tour. It’s just the first part of the tour, too, as they had to break up Allen’s automotive journey into two parts.
“It was hard to get a Ford GT,” Allen said. “This was the big deal and so I like a challenge. I said, ‘Oh yeah, let me try. I used to race for Ford.’
‘Home Improvement’ Star Did Lots Of Paperwork For Ford GT
“It was like getting into Stanford,” he said. “I never would’ve gotten to Stanford because I’ve never gotten an A in any kind of class. And so I said, I went through the whole…I couldn’t believe the amount of paperwork to get on the list to have them OK you to buy a car that you didn’t care how much it cost.”
Allen, who played Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor on “Home Improvement” on ABC, said he’s mixed about the Ford GT.
“In its element, I’ve never driven a more fantastic automobile,” he said.
“There’s no room in there. You’re two men, you’re in each others’ laps. There’s no cell phone slot. There’s no coffee, you can’t go anywhere.”
Tim Allen Talks About Taking Speedy Car Out With His Child
He also said the doors open up and attract too much attention. “I took one of my little ones down to a farmer’s market in Los Angeles and we both looked at each other and said, ‘Where are we going to put it anything? Well, I guess we’re going to have to eat all of this'” Allen said.
“It is the most startling-looking automobile from any angle I’ve ever seen,” he said. “Ford drilled it.”
He called the Ford GT “a race car for the street.” If anyone would know about it, then it’s the “Home Improvement” star himself.
Nevertheless, Tim Allen is obviously pleased to have this speedy automobile among his treasure trove of cars.
