“Blue Bloods” star Tom Selleck always has the time. The actor may be known for his iconic mustache. But it’s Selleck’s choice in watch wear for his roles, that’s got us talking.

Most fans may not realize this. But Selleck always matches his watch to whatever role he’s playing. Over the years, the actor has worn some pretty expensive and well-known timepieces. For instance, on his classic “Magnum P.I.,” Selleck combined his ‘stache, Aloha shirt, and a Rolex GMT-Master Pepsi to create Thomas Magnum. And that combo turned Selleck into a 1980s sex symbol.

Meanwhile in “Three Men and a Baby,” Selleck couldn’t just choose one watch to wear. He donned both a Quartz Timex Triathlon and a two-tone Rolex Datejust, according to Hodinkee. Not everyone may be a watch expert, but we can all appreciate the craftsmanship on display.

Recently, Selleck wore an 18k gold Daytona watch when appearing on the “Friends” reunion. He has also worn a Datejust in his appearance as Frank Reagan on “Blue Bloods” as well.

Tom Selleck on His Favorite Movie Roles

Tom Selleck probably has his favorite watches among his collection. Likewise, he also has his favorite movie and television roles as well. Throughout his career, Selleck has always wanted to push himself as an actor. For instance, “Blue Bloods” role Frank Reagan may be one of Selleck’s most realistic and human portrayals. As the Reagan patriarch, Selleck displays a range of emotions, and Franks’ not always perfect.

Compare that to Thomas Magnum, and you’ll get a stark difference. “Magnum P.I.” was more of an escapist adventure, establishing itself as an icon of the 1980s. Meanwhile, Selleck became good friends with fellow mustache icon Sam Elliott through a series of westerns together.

But one movie will always hold a special place in Selleck’s catalog. And that’s “Three Men and a Baby” for a very specific reason. It showed that Selleck could make the transition to movies and be a leading man if he chose to. The comedy became another classic within Selleck’s career.

“‘Three Men and a Baby’ kinda changed my life because all the people who said, ‘Well, we love Magnum but he can’t make it in movies’ could kind of not deny that we did pretty well,” Selleck said in a video. “That movie was the number one movie in the world. And a good movie. And a good comedy. I mean, people don’t realize… comedies, it’s easier to make people laugh when you can make them cry also. It’s easier to make people cry when you can make them laugh also. You have to find the comedy in tragedy and the tragedy in comedy as an actor.”
