Hugh Jackman may have played a superhero that could regenerate his skin. But in real life, the actor is just human like the rest of us. Recently, Jackman got candid with his followers about some pretty scary news. He revealed that his doctor took a biopsy of his skin.
The actor said the doctor’s noticed a growth that seemed “irregular” and wanted to practice caution. Now, the actor is urging others to get their skin checked and to wear plenty of sunscreen. On social media, Jackman filmed himself with a bandage across his nose. He said he would probably be rocking the medical covering fro the time being while his nose heals.
Doctors are currently testing a piece of the growth to see if they need to perform surgery. It wouldn’t be the first time that Jackman has had skin cancer.
“They saw something that was a little irregular, so they took a biopsy, getting it checked,” Jackman said. “So if you see a shot of me with this on, do not freak out. Thank you for your concern.”
Jackman promised fans that he would be fine and that doctors performed the biopsy as a precaution. But he also warned about the value of sunscreen. Growing up Jackman exposed himself to the sun on a daily basis and is now paying the price as a result.
“But just remember: go and get a check and wear sunscreen. Don’t be like me as a kid. Just wear sunscreen.” Jackman said. He doesn’t want his fans to put off getting checked and suffer as a result. Skin cancer is nothing to take lightly. Some forms can be aggressive and spread quickly.
Hugh Jackman’s Skin Battle
This isn’t the first time that Hugh Jackman has worn a bandaid across his nose. In fact, Jackman has battled skin cancer for years off and on. In fact, the actor has long advocated against the dangers of the sun. That sunburn today could turn into skin cancer tomorrow.
Jackman has had several cancer scares over the past few years. In 2017, the actor revealed he had surgery on his nose to remove a growth. That growth turned out to be basal cell carcinoma. Basal cell carcinoma is one of the most common forms of skin cancer. It’s treatable but can be costly and also disfigure a person as well. Usually, surgeons will remove the cancer if caught in time.
“Another basal cell carcinoma. Thanks to frequent checks & amazing doctors, all’s well. Looks worse w the dressing on then off!,” he wrote on Twitter in 2017.
Jackman promised to update fans once he knew more about his diagnosis. People should enjoy the outdoors and the sunshine. But remember to cover up.
