I Love Lucy was so much more than just a sitcom. It was a groundbreaking show that changed television forever. At the same time, it was a labor of love. Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball put their all into the show. From start to finish the classic show was built on the couple’s passionate and loving marriage.

A new film titled Being the Ricardos is officially in production at Amazon Studios. Principal photography for the biopic started earlier this week. The movie will take a look at a week in the life of the production team of I Love Lucy. It will focus on an event that threatens to end the show as well as Lucy and Desi’s marriage, according to Movieweb. From all the available details, it’s going to be a great film that looks deep into the lives of one of America’s favorite couples.

More Details About the Upcoming I Love Lucy Biopic

Oscar and Golden Globe-winner Aaron Sorkin will helm the I Love Lucy biopic. He also wrote the screenplay for the film. Sorkin has an impressive resume as a writer. He penned The Social Network (2010), Charlie Wilson’s War (2007), and A Few Good Men (1992), and many other successful projects according to his IMDb filmography. Being the Ricardos is his third directorial outing.

The cast for the I Love Lucy film is stellar as well. Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman will portray Lucy. Fellow Oscar-winner Javier Bardem will play Desi. Both have a long list of successful films as well as awards. They will bring some serious talent to the lead roles of Being the Ricardos.

The famous couple aren’t going it alone, though. Some other important figures from I Love Lucy will also be in the film. For instance, Lucy and Ricky’s friends Fred and Ethel Mertz will be portrayed by J.K Simmons and Nina Arianda.

Maybe the most important roles to I Love Lucy fans are those that will be behind the scenes. Lucy and Desi’s children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr. will executive produce the biopic. Lucie Arnaz said that she and her brother signed on to be part of the film because it tells a real-life story. Being the Ricardos doesn’t set out to recreate the classic TV show. As Lucie said, “No one could do that.”

Instead, the film will look at what it took to keep I Love Lucy going. At the same time, it will show audiences what the Arnaz family was like behind the scenes. As Arnaz said, their relationship was passionate, tempestuous, and complicated. So, it doesn’t seem that the film will sugar coat anything.

So, if you’ve ever wondered what things looked like behind the scenes of one of America’s biggest shows, you won’t have to wait too much longer to find out.
