Lucie Arnaz, the daughter of I Love Lucy stars Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz previously spoke about her acting experience, including her performances in her own backyard.

In an interview with Arlene Herson, Lucie Arnaz spoke about performing for her neighbors.

“I was 7-8-9-10, something like that,” Arnaz recalls. “I had a nice little garage set up in the backyard and I would get my girlfriends together.”

Lucie further reveals that she and her friends would lip-sync together and sing show tunes from musicals like Bye, Bye Birdie and Music Man. They would then create some stories that they would pretend to produce. The girls would then invite Lucie’s neighbors over to show off their progress.

Lucie Arnaz also discusses how her mother was involved in her career.

“If it wasn’t for [my mother] I suppose I would have gone the regular route and got to college. Studied theatre and go out and get additions or not whatever. I was lucky to an extent because my mother had a [show] I could work in.” Arnaz then adds, “My mother is not an idiot, you know. She [isn’t] going to let her two kids play her kids on the #1 show and have them be stupidly bad and have everyone say, ‘What are you crazy?!’”

Lucie Arnaz on Not Encouraging Her Children to Pursue Acting Careers

Also in the interview with Herson, Lucie Arnaz reveals that she didn’t encourage her children Simon, Joseph, and Katherine to pursue acting careers when they were younger.

“No, I have never encouraged them to go into show business or any other business,” Arnaz states. “I think they will find where their bliss is and where their passion lie. And then you encourage them to follow that, whatever that is.”

Lucie Arnaz also confirms that her daughter seems to be interested in the business.

“I have really tried to show them by example, you know. They watched their mom and dad [Laurence Luckinbill] be in show business and it’s not easy. You work sometimes and make a lot of money and you are working. Your name is above the title and it is very glamorous. Then months and months and months out of the year, you are not doing anything or you go up for something and you don’t get it. And you have to deal with a lot of rejection.”

Lucie Arnaz was born in 1951 and took on various roles at an early age. She made her acting debut in Here’s Lucy and she played murder victim Elizabeth Short in the TV film, Who is the Black Dahlia? She also performed in theatre, with playing the title role in Annie Get Your Gun in 1978 and They’re Playing Our Song, in which she won the Theatre World Award, as well as the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her portrayal as Sonia Walsk. Her recent film work was on the set of the reboot series Will & Grace last year.
