Nearly 75 years after the release of her iconic film It’s a Wonderful Life, Karolyn Grimes reveals whether the Christmas classic will actually get a sequel.

For those who haven’t seen the film, It’s a Wonderful Life is about an angel being sent from Heaven to help a desperately frustrated businessman by showing him what life would have been like if he had never existed. Grimes notably played the role of Zuzu Bailey, the daughter of James Stewart’s George Bailey.

Now at 81 years old, Grimes told the New York Daily News that she thinks a It’s a Wonderful Life sequel might be kind of fun. She also believes a sequel would tell the “rest of the story” about the Bailey family. “The kids would grow up and they’d have lives that are different,” she shares with the media outlet. “I think there’s a story there.”

Although she’s interested in a sequel, Grimes admitted she might be “a little long in the tooth” to participate. The actress also admitted she had no idea how important It’s a Wonderful Life would turn out to be. “I was 6-years-old and I’d already done four movies. It was just another job. So I didn’t give it much thought. And apparently, the audiences didn’t give it much thought either because it wasn’t a success.”

It’s true that It’s a Wonderful Life wasn’t really a huge success. The film, which had a budget of $3.18 million, only garnished $3.3 million in the box office at its debut.

Karolyn Grimes States ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ Is Needed During Days of Uncertainty and Unrest

Also during her interview with the New York Daily News, Karolyn Grimes stated that It’s a Wonderful Life is definitely needed during days of uncertainty and unrest. “I think a lot of people turn to this film to give them hope. And it’s a film that touches peoples’ lives. It’s very positive but there is a sense of negativity in the film too.”

Despite the negativity, Grimes shared everyone survives it. “I think that’s a reminder of today’s times. That if we have hope and if we try to make a difference. If we give of ourselves. I think it can all turn around.”

When asked about her favorite It’s a Wonderful Life scene, Grimes shared it is when George finds the flower petals that Zuzu had given him. “I like the scene where George is on the bridge and he wants to come back to life,” the It’s a Wonderful Life star explained. “He says, ‘Please God, please God, I want to live again.’ And the snow starts to fall. So then you know immediately he is back.”

Grimes goes on to add that the character learns a really valuable lesson. “He learns about faith, family, and friends. And the possibility of miracles.”
