Jaguars’ Tyler Eifert Honors Slain Police Captain With Helmet Decal

Tyler Eifert honored a slain retired St. Louis police captain during the Jaguars season-opening game against the Indianapolis Colts. The Jacksonville Jaguar tight end wore the name David Dorn, who was shot and killed during riots in June, on the back of his helmet.

Tyler Eifert posted a photo of his helmet on Twitter after the Jaguars’ 27-20 home win. “Great win to start the season. Love being a part of this new team and community! It was honor wearing David Dorns name on my helmet today!,” he wrote.

Dorn was killed June 2 in riots following the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Dorn was shot multiple times outside of a friend’s pawn shop, according to CNN. Two men have been arrested and are charged with the murder.

Tyler Eifert’s act was generally met with praise online after the game.

But the messaging from players Sunday about social justice issues went beyond helmet decals.
