Jared Padalecki solidifies his place in CW history with his most-watched premiere, Walker.

Just when CW fans thought Jared Padalecki had disappeared along with the 15-season hit show Supernatural, he’s back and bigger than ever. Padalecki’s post-Supernatural show, Walker premiered this week. The premier boasted the record for CW’s most-watched series premiere in five years. DC Legends of Tomorrow set the previous record in 2016. Additionally, with its 2.43 million viewers, Walker also garnered the largest audience of any premiere on the network since The Flash‘s season four debut in 2017.

Jared Padalecki Compares Supernatural and Walker

The show is a reboot of Chuck Norris’s Walker, Texas Ranger. The new show features Cordell Walker (Jared Padalecki) as he grieves the recent death of his wife. As he investigates the case, he must also balance his duties as a Ranger and father. The show airs on Thursdays at 8 pm. This is the same timeslot as Padalecki’s previous CW hit show, Supernatural. However, the shows are very different, according to Padalecki. During an interview, Padalecki talked about the differences between the two shows.

“Our shooting style on Walker is a little grittier, so if someone’s not perfectly lit or they get covered up slightly in a take, we keep it,” said Padalecki.

The CW star said that he’s glad that the two shows are different.

“It’s a really quick-paced shooting style. It’s taken some getting used to, but I really enjoy it and I love the way it looks. It looks very different from Supernatural, which is neat because you don’t want to just do the same exact thing. Otherwise, I would’ve stayed on Supernatural,” said Padalecki.

As a Texas native, Padalecki said that watching the original Walker, Texas Ranger “was part of growing up in Texas.”

“I wasn’t a superfan but I grew up with it, I saw most of the episodes,” said Padalecki. “It was part of growing up in Texas. It was huge all over, but it was certainly huge here,” he said.

In conclusion, although the style and story behind the show may be different, Jared Padalecki is still a CW fan-favorite.
