‘Jeopardy!’: Actor From ‘Black-Ish’ Still on Win Streak That Started Monday

Mike Nelson can now add “Jeopardy!” winner to his extensive resume. Nelson, an established actor, won $55,000 on “Jeopardy!” on Wednesday.

Nelson clinched his third consecutive win by banking $17,600 during the episode. Although he didn’t correctly answer the “Final Jeopardy!” clue about a car brand, Nelson still came out on top. He easily defeated Atlanta attorney Ellen Clarke and California tutor Max Nupen.

Nelson, who appeared in the popular sitcom “Black-ish,” lives in the Los Angeles area. Since 2014, he’s had a recurring role as Nurse Larry on the ABC sitcom. In addition, he has reportedly booked over 70 national commercials.

Per his IMDb page, Nelson has 48 credits as an actor. In addition to “Black-ish,” he’s also had roles on “Henry Danger,” “A Girl Named Joe,” and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” He also has a movie in post-production titled “Love and Baseball.”

He’s also an avid sports fan. During the contestant interviews on Wednesday’s episode of “Jeopardy!,” the Chicago native told guest host Anderson Cooper that he and his brother took a trip to Europe in October 2019 to see the Blackhawks play the Philadelphia Flyers in Prague. He also saw the Bears play the Oakland Raiders in London. Even though his Chicago teams lost, Nelson added that the trip “was fantastic.”

During his debut episode on Monday, Nelson racked up $26,600 on and defeated returning champ Patrick Hume and writer Donna Vorreyer. On Tuesday, it kept getting better for Nelson: he won $10,800, beating law student Logan Crossley. On Thursday, Nelson will compete with librarian Monica St. Dennis and bank examiner Kelly Donohue.

Anderson Cooper continues ‘Jeopardy!’ Guest Hosting Gig

As for Anderson Cooper, he began his guest-hosting gig on Monday and continues until April 30. A rotating cast of celebrity guest hosts have taken their spot behind the podium since longtime host Alex Trebek died in November. Next up, Savannah Guthrie, Bill Whitaker, and Mayim Bialik will try their hand at hosting following Cooper.

“Jeopardy!” also announced that George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts, LeVar Burton, David Faber, and Joe Buck would have turns behind the lectern to finish out the season.

“Our goal has been to present a wide variety of guest hosts with different skill sets and backgrounds on our path to finding a permanent host,” “Jeopardy!” producer Mike Richards said in a statement. “Our passionate fans are telling us what they like, and we are listening. All of the guest hosts have brought individualism, energy and an authentic love of our show to each of their episodes. We look forward to sharing the rest of the season with our viewers.”
