Some “Jeopardy!” fans aren’t happy with upcoming guest hosts filling Alex Trebek’s position. The show announced Dr. Oz and Anderson Cooper would be stepping up for hosting duties. They will replace Ken Jennings, who’s been hosting since Trebek’s passing in November 2020.

Fans aren’t happy with the choice of Dr. Oz specifically. They called out the TV doctor for his controversial support of hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19. Fans said OZ misled his viewers to support the drug, which may or may not be harmful. Users took to social media to voice their displeasure.

Meanwhile, fans received Cooper more warmly than they did Oz. Cooper has long been a fan of the show and has even appeared on “Celebrity Jeopardy!” previously during its run. After Trebek’s death, Cooper approached the show’s producers about honoring the late game show host. Each guest host will make a donation to a charity as well.

Savannah Guthrie and Dr. Sanjay Gupta will also act as guest hosts. Previously, it was announced that Katie Couric, Aaron Rodgers, Bill Whitaker, and Mayim Bialik will guest host the show.

Fans Want Ken Jennings to Host

No offense to Cooper or the others, but fans have a clear successor to Trebek’s throne in their minds. They want Jennings to take over the role permanently. And they’ve lent their support for him on social media. Previously, Jennings competed and won 74 games in 2004 before becoming the greatest of all time in 2020.

He’s captured Trebek’s spirit during his run as host.

“Sharing this stage with Alex Trebek was one of the greatest honors of my life,” Jennings said during his first episode as guest host, according to the Deseret News. “Not many things in life are perfect, but Alex did this job pretty much perfectly for more than 36 years — and it was even better up close. We were dazzled by his intelligence, his charm, his grace — really, there’s no other word for it.”

For Jennings, “Jeopardy!” has become more than a game show. It’s deeply ingrained in his life.

“Like all ‘Jeopardy!’ fans, I miss Alex,” Jennings continued. “Very much. And I thank him for everything he did for all of us. Let’s be totally clear: No one will ever replace the great Alex Trebek, but we can honor him by playing the game he loved.”
