He is known for his role as the long-time host of the hit game show, Jeopardy!, but during his career, Alex Trebek also took on other acting roles, including lending his voice for the cartoon series Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?

The children’s series, which premiered in 2019 and has 41 episodes so far, follows a similar premise to The New Scooby-Doo Movies, with a focus on the Mystery Inc. gang as they solve mysteries while being assisted by various celebrities and fictional characters. Alex Trebek appeared in the episode, Total Jeopardy!, the fourteenth episode of season 2 of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?

According to the episode’s synopsis, Alex Trebek is hosing another game of Jeopardy! with the unlikely competitors being Velma, Shaggy, and a robot who calls itself Max Kilobyte. As Velma keeps giving the right answers to the questions, Kilobyte slowly grows annoyed and eventually goes haywire. The robot begins smashing everything in its way. The episode’s villain turns out to be the Camerman, who notably invests his entire life savings in Max Kilobyte Robotics and if the robot would have won, he would have been rich.

Along with Trebek, other guest stars of the show included Mark Hamill, Maddie Ziegler, Kenan Thompson, Gigi Hadid, Bill Nye, and Tim Gunn.

Alex Trebek’s Cancer Diagnosis

In March 2019, Alex Trebek announced he was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. Trebek revealed he was experiencing a persistent stomachache but didn’t recognize it as a symptom. Alex further explains that his prognosis is poor but remains optimistic, saying he was aggressively fighting cancer in hopes of beating the odds.

During an interview in October 2019, Trebek states that he was not afraid of dying. “I’ve lived a good life,” he explains. “A full life and I’m nearing the end of that life. If it happens, why should I be afraid of that?” Trebek also revealed that he had already prepared an on-air farewell statement before his cancer diagnosis.

Alex Trebek died from the disease in November 2020 at the age of 80 after undergoing surgery related to his treatment the month beforehand. Trebek’s final episode of Jeopardy! premiered in January 2021.
