On Thursday night’s episode of Jeopardy!, guest host Mayim Bialik shared a clue for contestants that definitely hit close to home for the actress.
Bialik is one of many celebrity interims that have taken the reins of the game show. Ever since legendary host Alex Trebek passed away in November, the show has featured a rotating cast of guest hosts. Most recently, the Blossom and The Big Bang Theory star has stepped up to the podium. Last night’s episode even gave a nod to one of Bialik’s hit television shows during one of the categories.
One of the contestants named John chose “NOBLE PRIZE ODDITIES” for $800 in the Double Jeopardy! Round.
“PHYSICS WINNERS PENZIAS & WILSON HAD TO SHOO PIGEONS FROM THEIR ANTENNA TO PICK UP BACKGROUND RADIATION FROM THIS ‘BIG’ EVENT,” host Mayim Bialik read aloud.
“What is the Big Bang?” contestant Julia answered correctly as she laughed. The contestant made the connection between the answer and Bialik’s former hit sitcom and recognized the moment by gesturing to the host and saying “Heyyy!”
The actress played the role of Amy Farrah Fowler who was Sheldon’s love interest in The Big Bang Theory. Her character is equally as smart as Sheldon, earning a doctorate degree from Harvard University in neurobiology. In fact, the character’s career was inspired by actor Mayim Bialik’s own doctorate degree. It’s one of the many reasons the actress makes a great Jeopardy! host.
“Have a theory on this clue, @missmayim? @bigbangtheory,” Jeopardy! captioned their Instagram post.
The guest host later commented on the post amusingly writing, “Hmmm” with a thinking emoji.
‘Jeopardy!’ Host Mayim Bialik Shares Why She’s Equipped For the Hosting Job
As previously mentioned, current guest host Mayim Bialik seems to tick all the boxes you’d want for a Jeopardy! host. Of course, she’s had plenty of screen time from her various starring roles on television. However, many fans likely don’t know how knowledgeable she is outside of Hollywood. You may be better off calling her an academic instead of an actress.
Bialik attended UCLA where she earned a Ph.D. in neuroscience to pair with her decades of experience on TV. So it’s not just her Hollywood experiences that make her a solid choice for her guest host role on Jeopardy!.
“I think growing up with two crazy parents really made me equipped to do this,” Bialik joked in an exclusive Jeopardy! interview. “But, no, honestly when I think about the way that I was raised — you know I was raised by two public school teachers, who were documentary filmmakers, and artists. I was taught to learn as much as I could about everything. So, honestly, it’s really that, that I feel drives me.”
In addition, her work as an actress also comes in handy on the game show. Even though she still mostly credits her upbringing by her parents.
“I think that being an actor and a performer is really, really helpful for this,” she said. “But also being able to articulate all of these things — and I didn’t do it perfectly — but being able to kind of think on your feet and think fast and move quickly, that’s really just from being raised by my awesome parents.”
