Who has the more iconic mustache — “Blue Bloods” star Tom Selleck or the late “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek?
Both men rocked the Chevron mustache, which is a thick and bushy type of mustache. It also referred to as a type of walrus mustache.
Tom Selleck went ahead and voted for what he thinks is the “Best TV Mustache” on “The Rich Eisen Show.” The options were himself, Alex Trebek in the 1980s and 1990s, Isaac Washington from “The Love Boat,” and Ned Flanders from “The Simpsons.” Before giving his answer, Tom Selleck lamented about just how often he has to discuss his iconic mustache during interviews.
“I don’t get through an interview without a mustache question. I don’t need a mustache, I was born without it,” Selleck said.
He then later answered that he chose Alex Trebek for “obvious reasons.”
TV has no shortage of epic facial hair, including some of the bushiest mustaches. However, both Tom Selleck and Alex Trebek are known for their decades-long mustaches.
Alex Trebek Iconic Mustache
When people with facial hair as iconic as Alex Trebek and Tom Selleck shave, it turns the world into turmoil. However, Trebek hadn’t been consistently sporting his walrus ‘stache for years.
According to Today, Alex Trebek shocked his “Jeopardy!” fans when he appeared next to the game board with a silver beard in 2018. Then, the day after that he had sported a small goatee instead. By Wednesday, he was back to the classic ‘stache.
The show even shared some fun polls and videos of Trebek shaving throughout that facial-hair-oriented week. At the end of it all, Trebek ended up going for that sleek, clean-shaven look. As it turns out, there was one person’s opinion that mattered above everyone else’s.
“Sorry to have to tell you folks, but voting is now closed. And we’ve determined that the winner is my wife, Jean. She voted for me to be clean-shaven and so, that’s it,” Trebek said at the time.
‘Jeopardy!’ Icon’s Wardrobe Donated
Sadly, Alex Trebek passed away in November after his long battle with pancreatic cancer.
The famous “Jeopardy!” host, mustache or no mustache, always showed up to the trivia show sharply dressed and ready to give contestants some subtle sarcasm.
According to CBS News, a “significant portion” of his wardrobe from the show was donated to those who needed it most. The show and the family of Trebek were behind the sizable donation to The Doe Fund. This is an organization that “provides paid work, housing, vocational training, continuing education and comprehensive social services to underserved Americans with histories of addiction, homelessness and incarceration.”
Which of Trebek’s belongings are reaching those in need? The Doe Fund received 14 suits, 300 neckties, 15 belts, 58 dress shirts, 25 polo shirts, 14 sweaters, nine pairs of dress shoes, nine sports coats, two parkas, and then three pairs of dress slacks.
Through the generous donation, Alex Trebek and “Jeopardy!” had the opportunity to make a major impact in several struggling individual’s lives.
