Jeopardy! has a history of charismatic champions. When you think of those who made a big splash on the show, Ken Jennings probably comes to mind. That’s fair. However, Buzzy Cohen appeared on the show in 2016 and had a killer run. He had a nine-game streak on the iconic quiz show in 2016. During that time, Cohen took home over $150,000. Then, he came back to compete in the Tournament of Champions and won that as well. That victory netted him a quarter of a million dollars.

The victories and money aren’t all that brought Buzzy Cohen Jeopardy! fame, though. His personality and great sense of humor made him a fan favorite. His suave good looks made him a favorite among the show’s female fans as well. He is set to step up to the legendary lectern as guest-host in the upcoming Tournament of Champions.

The official Jeopardy! Twitter account recently released an interview with Buzzy. In the short video, the former champion talks about his history on the show as well as what hosting the Tournament of Champions means to him. At one point, he discusses his life-long love for the iconic quiz show.

“From a very young age, I loved Jeopardy!” Buzzy Cohen said in the interview. He went on to say that the show made knowing things both cool and valuable. As a kid, he was passionate about gaining all of the knowledge he could, so the show was both gave him both inspiration and validation. Cohen added, “It’s not about cleverness or tricking people. It’s really just about knowing the stuff.”

More About Jeopardy! Champ Buzzy Cohen

Cohen doesn’t get as much press as his predecessor, Ken Jennings, these days. However, he sat down with The Wrap during his winning streak back in 2016. In that interview, he gave some more information about himself as well as what it was like being on the show.

The Jeopardy! champ is known for his sense of humor. For instance, when he knew he had a game in the bag, he would use his final response to make a joke. One of his more famous responses was “What is see you tomorrow, Trebek?” Some fans loved it. Others hated it. Buzzy, on the other hand, was just having fun. He told The Wrap, “The thing that people don’t realize is that, when I went into my audition, the one thing that the contestant coordinator said was, ‘It’s a game show. Have fun.’” So, that’s what he did.

The Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions kicks off Monday 5/17 and will run until 5/28.
