Former Jeopardy! champion Buzzy Cohen made his game show hosting debuting last night (Monday) for the show’s Tournament of Champions.

Cohen, now 36-years-old, is no stranger to the Jeopardy! set as a former contestant and champion. His original run on the show came in 2016 when he won six straight episodes. He was invited back for the 2017 Tournament of Champions, which he won. In 2019, he was chosen as a captain for the Jeopardy! All-Stars edition of the show. His time on the show has come full circle as he steps behind the lectern that once belonged to his idol, the late Alex Trebek.

Bestowing the nickname “Mr. Personality” upon him, Cohen was a favorite of the longtime Jeopardy! host. Trebek passed away in late 2020 at the age of 80 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Cohen recognized Trebek in a social media post before taking the stage for his first episode.

“This is and will always be Alex’s stage,” he says in the moving post. “Humbled and honored to join the legacy today.”

Jeopardy! Guest Host Adored by Show’s Fans

Trebek, however, is not the only person to take a liking to the personable and likable Jeopardy! guest host. With his quirky, yet charming personality, Cohen has already become a fan-favorite among Jeopardy! faithful. Even after just a single episode, many fans of the show are deeming him their favorite of all the hosts.

His first episode aired Monday evening and was later met with overwhelming positivity from Jeopardy! fans. Some have even suggested he could eventually emerge as a top candidate for the permanent hosting gig.

“Buzzy Cohen is the best,” a fan proclaims after viewing the episode. “I love listening to him. Knowledgeable, excited about the game and he just seems to bring Jeopardy to life. Please keep Buzzy!”

Furthermore, other fans flooded Jeopardy! social media accounts with praise for the rookie host. Fans were not shy about suggesting that Cohen get a serious look for the full-time Jeopardy! job.

“When Buzzy Cohen first showed up on Jeopardy! as a contestant, my mom remarked, he might make a good host someday,'” a fan tweeted. “I’m sure she would be delighted to see two of her suggestions followed in the very same episode.”

Cohen will continue as Jeopardy! guest host through the remainder of the annual Tournament of Champions. His last episode will be Friday, May 28. Thereafter, actress Mayim Bialik is next in line for a guest hosting opportunity.
