Nothing can stop current “Jeopardy!” champion Matt Amodio. He just snagged his 35th win on the game show and raked in $50,000 in the process.

Amodio already beat out the legendary James Holzhauer’s total number of consecutive wins. Now, he’s on his way to beating out Holzhauer’s winnings record too, which currently stands at $2.4 million. After last night, Amodio officially hit $1.4 million, so he has just a million more dollars to go.

Amodio’s also chasing after “Jeopardy!” GOAT Ken Jennings‘ all-time records for consecutive wins and highest earnings. He’s about 39 games away from catching up to Jennings’ wins and $1.1 million away from his winnings record. But based on his performance so far, we have no doubt that Amodio’s more than capable.

“Jeopardy!” celebrated last night’s win for the champion with a special shoutout on Instagram. They posted a clip of Amodio’s winning “Final Jeopardy!” wager plus a peek behind the scenes with host Mayim Bialik.

The “Final Jeopardy!” clue told contestants, “This phrase relating nutrition and health was popularized by fruit scientist J.T. Stinson at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair.” All three competitors answered correctly with “What is ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away?'”

Amodio bet $11,000 of his existing $39,000, bringing him to what Bialik called “a beautiful round number” of $50,000.

“I liked the round numbers,” Amodio told her behind the scenes. “It’s also harder to make arithmetic errors if you stick to round numbers.”

‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Matt Amodio Makes Risky Wager That Pays Off Big Time

Last night’s $11,000 bet was rather conservative compared to previous wagers “Jeopardy!” champion Matt Amodio’s made this week. On Monday, he set his record for his highest single-game winnings yet with $83,000.

Amodio went into the “Final Jeopardy!” round with $46,000. He bet an astonishing $37,000 of that on his final answer, which was “Who is Machiavelli?”. Apparently, Amodio had a big enough lead over the other contestants that he felt comfortable wagering that much.

It all turned out well for the “Jeopardy!” champ though. His combined winnings brought him to $83,000, which was a huge personal victory for the champ. Although, it was still at least $6,000 away from breaking James Holzhauer’s lowest single-game winnings record on the leaderboard, which is $89,229.

“Jeopardy!” tweeted a clip of Amodio’s victory and pure astonishment that his huge bet paid off. “83K? We’re not worthy,” the game show captioned the post. Amodio quote tweeted the post and added, “A #Jeopardy wager that would hopefully make Machiavelli proud!”

We’ll see if Amodio’s success on the game show continues tonight at 7 p.m. on ABC.
