As of Friday night’s episode, current Jeopardy! champion Matt Amodio officially secured the second-longest winning streak in the game show’s history. Now, he only has Jeopardy! legend Ken Jennings to beat. While he strives to break Jennings’ first-place record, he also dreams of meeting the former contestant who he considers a huge influence.

During a recent interview, Amodio opened up about his ongoing win streak on the game show. He just passed James Holzhauer to move up to second place on the all-time wins list. However, his 33 straight wins are still far away from Jennings’ record. The Jeopardy! GOAT holds the record with a 74-game win streak, which set the standard back in 2004.

Ever since, no one has come close to Jennings’ record, but Amodio at least has a chance. He’s worked his way up the rankings since last season of the game show, and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. But there’s still a long way to go to catch Jennings. Although Jennings is his only competition now, he has a ton of respect for the iconic Jeopardy! competitor. In fact, while speaking to Newsweek recently, he specifically said he’d love to meet Jennings in person.

“I have still not actually met Ken or James, but I would absolutely love to,” Amodio said to Newsweek. “I also hope to meet some of the guest hosts I had again if they’ll have me on their shows!”

With Ken Jennings returning to host the show for the rest of the year, Amodio may just get his chance.

“Meeting Ken under any circumstances would be a dream, but [having] it be under these circumstances would be Rudy-levels of perfection,” Amodio added. “And as a fan, I loved him as a host. Seeing him on a Jeopardy! stage is like seeing a polar bear in the snow: it just looks right.”

‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Matt Amodio Reveals How ‘Tough’ the Day-to-Day Process Is During a Lengthy Win Streak

Matt Amodio has another thing in common with Ken Jennings and James Holzhauer – they each know just how tough a long Jeopardy! winning streak can be day-to-day.

The current champ recently opened up about the daily process of what it’s like each day during a long win streak. While it’s difficult to answer a myriad of questions over and over each episode, Amodio doesn’t find that to be the hardest part of winning this many games. Instead, he says the biggest challenge is the physical side since it can be difficult to have the energy to compete day in and day out.

As the reigning champion continues his historic win streak, he gave one reason why he thinks there aren’t more long-term champions. While speaking to The Ringer, Amodio shared thoughts on the unique and “tough” process of winning so many Jeopardy! episodes in a row.

“Having to go for a full day, ride the energy all day with all that enthusiasm, and then knowing that you have to go to sleep early and then wake up early to be ready to do it all again—it’s tough,” Amodio explained to The Ringer. “I think that’s one of the reasons why you have so few long-term champions right there, where even if the game weren’t also changing underneath you with new questions, that physical aspect is really tough.”
