His record winning streak is now over but “Jeopardy!” champion Matt Amodio is still coming down from cloud nine.

Amodio won 38 straight episodes of “Jeopardy!” with his streak beginning earlier this summer. His streak may have come to a shocking conclusion this week but his name will live in the game show record books forever. His 38 consecutive victories rank second all-time behind on Ken Jennings, who won 74-straight matches back in 2004. Amodio has noted that he idolizes Jennings, who is now employed by “Jeopardy!” as a part-time host. Widely considered the most successful game show contestant of all time, Jennings gave Amodio a couple of social media shoutouts to the recent winner’s delight.

During his impressive “Jeopardy!” winning streak, Amodio racked up a little over $1.5 million in earnings. That number also puts him in the record books behind Jennings and fellow “Jeopardy!” champion James Holzhauer.

A doctoral student at a prestigious Ivy League School, $1.5 million is probably the most money Amodio has seen. In a recent interview with CNN, Amodio says he already has a plan in mind for his winning. It may not be what the rest would do with that amount of cash, but Amodio says he plans on keeping every penny of his winnings.

“Oh my goodness,” he says as he collects his thoughts and prepares for a reply. “Boring answer — but I’m going to save it. My goal is to not need to touch a penny anytime soon.”

‘Jeopardy!’ Champion Matt Amodio Aims to Save Money

That answer is what we have come to know and expect from the uber-intelligent Matt Amodio. Saving his cash winnings is the smart thing to do and the “Jeopardy!” winner is among the smartest to ever play the game. He should give himself a little treat though now that he’s flushed with cash — maybe a nice little sports car.

Fans of the hit game show have also come to expect humility from Amodio as he is without a shroud of arrogance. He played the game of “Jeopardy!” with class and respect, becoming a favorite of game show fans along the way. Now, he will get to enjoy the fruits of his labor. He also says he plans on participating in trivia competitions at nearby bars. Can you imagine sitting down for a night of trivia and seeing that your opponent is Matt Amodio? That might make for a long night.

“I know going into every bar trivia game that I play that I’m going to come in with a little intimidation factor,” he says after losing his first episode. “But also, I just like the badge that it represents. As somebody who prioritizes knowledge and knowing things, this is really a good one to have following me everywhere.”

“Jeopardy!” fans likely have not seen the last of Matt Amodio as he will undoubtedly be asked to return for special editions of the show.
