The “Jeopardy!” guest-hosting tenure is up and running for television personality LeVar Burton is off to a good start.
Burton began his one-week stint as the guest host of “Jeopardy!” just yesterday (Monday). Fans of the show have long been clamoring for the former “Reading Rainbow” star to get this opportunity. He was initially selected to serve as a guest host but openly campaigned for the chance. That campaign included a petition that was signed by thousands upon thousands of individuals who want to see Burton behind the podium. They got their wish and now Burton is overseeing the competitive battle of wits and brains.
On Monday, one particular “Jeopardy!” contestant was super excited to meet LeVar Burton. Barb Fecteau, an Elementary school librarian from Boston, says she is a huge Star Trek fan. Burton, of course, starred on Star Trek for several years — one of his most iconic roles. In a recent interview, Fecteau says meeting and chatting with Burton was one of the greatest moments of her life. Her first “Jeopardy!” match will air tonight (Tuesday) in a brand new episode.
In her exchange with Burton, Fecteau quoted a line from “Star Trek: The Next Generation” to the guest host. To her delight, Burton then spoke the corresponding line to complete the quote. Though a small exchange, it obviously had a huge impact on the Boston Librarian. She calls the exchange with Burton one of the highlights of her entire life.
“It was one of the best moments in my life,” she says. “I got to Star Trek quip with LeVar Burton.”
‘Jeopardy!’ Contestant Raves About Experience
The new guest host made quite an impression on the “Jeopardy!” contestant. She had wonderful things to say about Burton and her experience on the show.
“LeVar Burton is just as nice as you would think,” she says. “He was a really fun host. They do five episodes in a day so I got to see the whole week. You see him get better with each episode.”
Fecteau doubled down on her emphatic praise for “Jeopardy!” and calls it an incredible experience.
“It was the most fun I’ve ever had in my life,” she says in the interview.
Burton will continue his run as the guest host of “Jeopardy!” through the remainder of the week. His final episode is set for this Friday.
The television star has made it no secret that he would love to land the permanent role. “Jeopardy!” hopes to name a full-time host at some point this year. Burton will certainly be a candidate for the gig but will several others who have served as guest hosts. Several big names have taken on the responsibility, including former contestant Ken Jennings, NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers and actress Mayim Bialik.
“Jeopardy!” has yet to put an official timeline on when the hire will be made.
