Some things are just meant to be. Well, that was the case for a recent contestant on “Jeopardy!”

That contestant was Evan Williams. He came to the show from his home in North Hollywood, California, where he works as an associate broker. According to Williams, he was “born” to appear as a contestant on the popular quiz show. He talked about that with guest host Savannah Guthrie.

Turns out, the connection between Williams and “Jeopardy!” goes back to the day he was born.

“You were born during an episode of ‘Jeopardy!'” Guthrie says during their exchange on the show.

Williams confirms that this is true. Then, he shares his interesting story.

“I was,” the contestant tells Guthrie. “My mom was wheeled into the delivery a couple minutes past 7 p.m. on a Tuesday evening when ‘Jeopardy!’ was airing. For whatever reason, it was on in the delivery room …”

In addition to giving birth to her son, Evan Williams’ mother was also playing along with the contestants on the episode of “Jeopardy!” that was playing in the delivery room.

“She was shouting out answers while she was pushing,” Williams says.

Now that is a true “Jeopardy!” fan!

Needless to say, this experience laid the groundwork for Williams to eventually appear as a contestant on the show.

“So I was born to play, I guess,” he says.

Guthrie agrees: “I was going to say, you were born for this.”

Evan Williams Isn’t the Only ‘Jeopardy!’ Contestant With an Interesting Story

While most people can’t say they were born while their mother was playing “Jeopardy!” in the delivery room, there are many other contestants who bring their interesting stories with them when they appear on the show.

For example, another interesting story recently came from contestant Trenton J. Woodley. Like many of the other contestants who appear on the show, Woodley had watched “Jeopardy!” since he was a youngster. In fact, the show was something he and his grandmother shared and enjoyed together.

Unsurprisingly, Woodley took steps to be a contestant on the show. However, he almost missed the opportunity to do so because he almost didn’t answer his phone when representatives of the show called him to give him the good news that he had been chosen to be a contestant.

Like most of us, Woodley gets unwanted calls from unknown numbers frequently. So, when the call came from “Jeopardy!” and he didn’t recognize the number he almost didn’t answer.

Luckily, Woodley recognized the phone number’s area code and he decided to answer.

“I almost didn’t answer because I’ve been getting those weird ‘extended warranty’ calls,” Woodley said. “But the area code was 213, so I answered, and it was ‘Jeopardy!’
