LeVar Burton made no secret that he wanted to take the Jeopardy! reigns after Alex Trebek died. In fact, he had publicly talked about wanting that position long before Trebek passed away in November of 2020. He tweeted in 2013 that it was his dream job. Then, he finally got the chance to stand behind that legendary lectern last month. Burton guest-hosted the show for a short time. Burton’s fans as well as fans of the show praised his hosting prowess. However, he may not get his dream job after all.

On August 4, news broke that Mike Richards, Jeopardy!‘s longtime executive producer is the frontrunner for the permanent hosting job. Many of the show’s fans were less than happy about that news. One fan said that Richards was “boring and forgettable” in his hosting stint. Since Trebek’s passing, several people have stepped in to guest-host. Many of those guests received rave reviews from fans. Richards, however, wasn’t one of them. There are many people who are far more qualified for that job, in the eyes of many fans of the show.

Earlier today, LeVar Burton might have replied to the news in the most gracious way possible. Once again showing that he isn’t just a great TV personality. He’s a good guy with a big heart and deep respect for the show. Check out the tweet below.

LeVar Burton (Possibly) Responds to Bad News in a Great Way

In the tweet, LeVar Burton wrote, “I have said many times over these past weeks that no matter the outcome, I’ve won.” He goes on to say that the outpouring of love and support that he received during and after his guest-hosting stint was incredible. He ended his message by saying, “If love is the ultimate blessing and I believe that it is, I am truly blessed beyond measure.”

LeVar Burton could have hopped on Twitter and threw shade at Richards. On the other hand, he could have ranted about how he is more qualified for the job. There were plenty of tweets from fans about how wrong Richards is for the job. Some go so far as to say that he selected himself for the job. Burton could have shared some of those to make his feelings known. However, he didn’t. That just isn’t his style.

Instead, LeVar Burton did what he has been doing since his days on Reading Rainbow. He used his energy to spread a little positivity. His fans took notice. The replies to his tweet are full of support. However, his fans are following his positive example. No one is badmouthing Richards. Instead, they’re expressing their love and support for Burton.

Did LeVar Burton get his dream job? That remains to be seen. However, he definitely won no matter who lands the job. He has an army of fans, friends, and other supporters behind him. At the same time, Burton stayed true to his humble and wholesome public image.
