Hundreds of Jeopardy! fans are calling for this new host to take over in place of Dr. Mehmet Oz, who currently guest hosting the game show.

Dr. Oz or LeVar Burton?

Jeopardy! fans are calling producers to drop Dr. Oz and pick up LeVar Burton as the new host of the popular game show.

LeVar Burton is most known for his gig as host of the Reading Rainbow and starring in the movie Star Trek: The Next Generation and Roots. However, hundreds of thousands of people have signed a petition saying he should be the one to succeed Alex Trebek who unfortunately died in early November.

The Jeopardy! host who is currently in the lead with votes thus far is Ken Jennings. He holds the record for the most Jeopardy! wins with 74 and is royalty on the show. But, if the royal family has taught me anything, it’s that even they can get caught up in scandals.

In January, Ken Jennings was involved in a controversy after defending his podcast co-host through some questionable parenting techniques.

According to Newsweek, that was all the more reason they needed to push for LaVar Burton’s employment.

In addition, after Dr. Oz’s comments about Covid-19 as well as other controversial opinions, Jeopardy! fans have had enough.

Social Media is Sharpening their Pitchforks

Many took to Twitter with their outcries, further demanding Burton.

“WHY ISN’T THIS LEVAR BURTON’S JOB ALREADY????” said journalist Elie Mystal.” Is there some kind of rule that Jeopardy has to try out every available white person before giving the job to the black guy backed by popular demand??? ARE THEY GONNA TRY OUT THE SHAMWOW GUY NEXT?”

Yvette Nicole Brown quote tweeted the post, saying, “Dear @jeopardy, WHY isn’t this @levarburton’s job already?! #Sheesh!”

Jeopardy! Hosts

Dr. Oz serves as host behind Ken Jennings, executive producer Mike Richards, and Today Show host Katie Couric.

As we stated, Jennings was currently leading the vote for who should get the permanent positions. Furthermore, Katie Couric was in last place according to a TV Line poll. We are curious to see how Dr. Oz ranks in comparison.

Other guest hosts set to take over on the star-studded lineup include NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers, “60 Minutes'” Bill Whitaker, “Big Bang Theory” actress and neuroscientist Mayim Bialik, CNN’s Anderson Cooper, neurosurgeon, medical reporter, and writer, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, and the “Today Show’s” Savannah Guthrie.

While LaVar Burton has not yet made the list, it is unknown if Jeopardy! is considering adding him in the future.
