‘Jeopardy!’: Fans Sound Off What Should Happen With ‘Runner-Up’ Guest Hosts After Alex Trebek Replacement Named

by Thad Mitchell

Fans of the hit game show “Jeopardy!” are very closely following the guest hosting situation as they eagerly await a new full-time host.

Of course, there can only be one permanent host when the smoke clears. But, fans have some ideas for the runner-up(s) of the new hot search. “Jeopardy!” fans discussed these ideas in a recent Reddit thread. Placing the runner-ups in the “clue crew” seems to be the popular choice.

“The Clue Crew roster has dwindled quite a bit since they were introduced,” a “Jeopardy!” fan says. “Giving people who are known for doing a good job presenting clues a shot at still working on the show would be a nice sort of consolation prize.”

Since the passing of legendary and longtime host Alex Trebek, “Jeopardy!” has been utilizing celebrities as guest hosts. A true television icon, Trebek officiated the game he loved for 37 years without missing a beat. His subtle charm, intellect and graceful management of the game made him into a household name. Trebek also took “Jeopardy!” to new heights, making it one of the most-watched game shows of all time. The game show hosting legend lost his battle to pancreatic cancer in November of last year. He was 80-years-old at the time of his death. In a show of true dedication to his craft, Trebek remained the show’s host to the end of his life. He recorded his final episodes only a few days before his passing.

Knowing that replacing the most well-known game show host of all time would be a chore, “Jeopardy!” took an unconventional route. Since early this year, the show has been “auditioning” various celebrities to be the new permanent host. Former champion and “Jeopardy!” Ken Jennings got the first crack at guest hosting. Since then some big names in the world of sports, entertainment and journalism have stepped behind the host’s podium. Some of the more notable names include NFL star Aaron Rodgers, actress Mayim Bialik and journalist Anderson Cooper.

It is safe to say that “Jeopardy!” watchers are following the situation very closely. Fans want the show to continue in the same tradition and format that Trebek utilized for so many years. The show hopes to have a permanent host by the end of this year. Of course, there can only be one new host. Could the others wind up on the clue crew? Some fans certainly think it’s a possibility.

“That’s a nice idea,” a “Jeopardy!” watcher proclaims. “It would be kind of cool to have specialized correspondents. Like Aaron Rodgers doing sports categories and Buzzy on entertainment and music.”

With “Jeopardy!” officials hoping to have the new host nailed down sooner than later, the wait will soon come to an end.

And that is just fine with loyal “Jeopardy!” watchers.
