Jeopardy! fans are certainly unique and won’t easily be lumped into any other game show grouping. One thing in particular that fanatics of the show love is the word “genre.” More importantly, it is a word that Alex Trebek made famous by saying in his own signature way.
One adoring fan even put together a compilation of the late game show host saying the word on a number of different occasions. “I spent way too much time putting together this video of Alex Trebek saying the word ‘genre,’ so now you have to RT it. Sorry, I don’t make the rules,” the fan writes along with the video.
Interim guest host Ken Jennings also got in on the fun. He responded to the video mentioning that he took a “whack” at saying the word “genre” on one of this week’s episodes.
Fans of the show instantly fell in love with how Alex Trebek was saying the word. Almost immediately, it became the calling card for all Jeopardy! fans all over the world.
One fan responded to the video writing,” Play this loud at my f***ing funeral.” Another fan commented: “Have we all been saying genre wrong this whole time?”

Clearly, fans still love the way he was saying the word and made countless videos of him saying “genre.” Ken Jennings, in his guest-hosting appearances, did his best to replicate the way that the legendary host says the word.
Luckily, fans won’t have to wait long to hear his attempt at saying genre. The newest episode of Jeopardy!, number 105, will air tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
Regardless of how the Jeopardy! fans receive the Alex Trebek “genre” attempt, it is absolutely with good intentions. There is an old saying that imitation is the greatest form of flattery. So, Ken Jennings will take the host spot tonight to try and do the Jeopardy! fan base justice.
