‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Think This ‘Dark Horse Candidate’ Would Nail Guest Hosting Gig

Jeopardy! has chosen its guest hosts for the current season. But if fans had their way, another celebrity would get their chance.

Jeopardy! fans often weigh in on guest host’s performance and make suggestions on who could make for a good host. The selection of LeVar Burton as a guest host is proof that the voices of Jeopardy! fans are being heard. Now, loyalists have another name in mind for a guest-hosting spot. Referring to him as a “dark horse” candidate, a recent Reddit thread is full of support for Andy Richter.

“A dark horse candidate that would nail it is Andy Richter,” the thread starter says. “I like him a lot and he also has Jeopardy! bona fides. Just thinking out loud.”

Richter is best known as the sidekick of late night talk show host Conan O’Brien. Richter has also made an appearance on a celebrity edition of Jeopardy! and did quite well. He currently holds the record for all-time highest one-day score on Celebrity Jeopardy! by winning $68,000. His winnings were donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Other Reddit users and Jeopardy! fans offered up there support for Richter as well.

“Andy was one of the people I was hoping would get a shot when rumors about guest hosts were going rampant,” another poster says.

‘Jeopardy!’ Invites Guest Hosts

The loss of longtime Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek left a huge void behind the game show’s lectern, where Trebek stood for 37 years. Trebek passed away last November after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 80-years-old at the time of his death and remained the show’s host right up until the end. He recorded his final Jeopardy! episodes just days before his passing.

Knowing that replacing the shoes that Trebek filled would not be an easy chore, Jeopardy! officials decided to take their time in finding a new permanent host. They have kept the game show rolling right along by inviting celebrities from different walks of life to host the show. Former Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings, NFL star Aaron Rodgers and journalist Katie Couric are just a few of the big names to take on hosting duties.

Journalist Bill Whitaker is currently hosting Jeopardy! and will continue on until next Friday. Upon completion of his tenure, former contestant Buzzy Cohen will step behind the podium for the annual Tournament of Champions. Actress Mayim Bialik waits in the wings for her shot once the tournament wraps up.
