Upcoming “Jeopardy!” guest host, LeVar Burton, took to social media to wish his followers a happy Independence Day.
“Happy Independence Day, y’all. Enjoy the cookout,” the former host of “Reading Rainbow” tweeted out in celebration of the Fourth of July holiday.
In the replies section, his followers responded, such as when one person replied with, “Thanks levar. You touched so many lives with your imagination and good will over the years. We have all been blessed with you in our lives.”
Someone else followed suit, writing, “Happy 4th of July to you and your family.”
“It will hurt. I’m not going to lie,” Burton said. “But if that happens, I will get over it. I will be fine. Remember: Everything happens perfectly and for a reason. That is my default. It’s all going to be OK. Because it always is.”
After Burton revealed he wanted the gig full time, his dedicated fans started lobbying for the show to name him as host. Burton’s episodes will air from July 26 to July 30.

When Burton was asked to be a guest host, the longtime fan was thrilled. He’s been a fan of the classic quiz show since the original host, Art Fleming, hosted “Jeopardy!” in the ’60s and ’70s.
“It’s difficult to explain, but there’s something inside me that says this makes sense,” Burton said in the interview. “I feel like this is what I’m supposed to do. I have been watching ‘Jeopardy!’ more or less every night of my life since Art Fleming was host.”
Burton added, “Look, I have had a career for the ages. ‘Roots,’ ‘Star Trek,’ ‘Reading Rainbow.’ Won a Grammy. Got a shelf full of Emmys. I’m a storyteller, and game shows are tremendous stories. There’s a contest, there’s comedy, there’s drama. If you don’t know your [expletive] on Jeopardy!, you’re sunk in full view of the entire nation. The stakes are high. I love that.”
In April, the show announced its final group of guest hosts. In addition to LeVar Burton, “Good Morning America” co-anchors Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos, CNBC journalist David Faber, and sportscaster Joe Buck would round out the season.
After the news broke about Burton’s guest-hosting gig, Burton shared his excitement with his followers via Twitter.
“THANK YOU … to all y’all for your passionate support! I am overjoyed, excited, and eager to be guest-hosting Jeopardy!, and will do my utmost best to live up to your faith you [put] in me,” he tweeted. “YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE! Go ahead and take my word for it, this time.”
