Aaron Rodgers is trading his football uniform for a suit as he prepares to take the “Jeopardy!” stage on Monday. The Green Bay Packers quarterback will be a guest host on the iconic quiz show for two weeks, starting on Monday, April 5.

In an exclusive interview with “Jeopardy!” Rodgers revealed what he hopes to bring to the game show. For Rodgers, his strategy as a host is to focus on respect.

“Just respect for the position, Rodgers said. “You know, Alex did it with such grace and humility. I just wanted to bring the same type of approach to let people know that I was focused, that I cared about it, that I love the game, and that I wanted to do him justice.”

Aaron Rodgers on Honoring Alex Trebek

Rodgers also hopes to honor the late “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek as much as possible. During an interview with ESPN, Rodgers revealed that one of his goals as host is to make sure his memory is appropriately honored.

“I felt like the best way to honor Alex’s memory was to be so dialed in and so ready,” Rodgers said to ESPN. He added that a head producer on the show told him she was ‘so appreciative” of his approach.’ “I was ready to rock and roll,” Rodgers added.

For Rodgers, the job of “Jeopardy!” host is a childhood dream that’s becoming a reality. In 2015, Rodgers was a contestant on “Jeopardy!” and won $50,000 for a charity dedicated to childhood cancer research. In addition, Rogers let it be known that he’s heading into his hosting stint as he would before any big game: by preparing.

“I watched hours and hours and hours of episodes,” Aaron Rodgers said. “Luckily Netflix has a few seasons, and I went back to DVR. But I had to watch from a different perspective — from Alex’s perspective. I couldn’t watch it as a fan anymore.”

He continued, “I took pages and pages and pages of notes. “I wrote down every affirmative that he said to any type of clue. I wrote down how he would respond if they didn’t get it right. Literally, I studied for this like no other. I wanted to absolutely just crush it.”

Moreover, the quarterback recently shared which charity he will be supporting during his time on the show. Earlier in the week, the NFL MVP said that he would be donating to his hometown of Chico, California, and the North Valley Community Foundation. As with the other celebrity guest hosts, the show will match the winnings of the contestants.
