In just two days, the reigning 2021 NFL Most Valuable Player will be taking the Jeopardy! podium to start his two-week run as the show’s guest host.
Rodgers has been a die-hard Jeopardy! fan for all of his adult life. But now he will be seeing things from the perspective of the host. Following in the footsteps of Katie Couric and Dr. Oz, Rodgers will be the third celebrity to step in as guest host this season.
Each of the recent interim hosts has chosen a charity to raise money for. For example, Katie Couric teamed up with the show to raise money for pancreatic cancer research. Longtime Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek passed away last November after fighting the disease.
The Green Bay Packers quarterback recently took to Twitter to share which of the charities that he will be supporting during his run. Earlier in the week, the star quarterback said that he will be donating to his hometown of Chico, California, and the North Valley Community Foundation. And like with the other hosts, Jeopardy! will match the winnings of the contestants.
“This is going to be good. @AaronRodgers12 is hosting @Jeopardy for two weeks starting Monday,” NVCF tweeted. “‘Jeopardy!’ will match the winnings of all contestants and donate it to the Aaron Rodgers Small-Business COVID-19 Fund at NVCF. Episodes air at 7:30 p.m. on NBC. We can’t wait.”
Rodgers retweeted NCVF’s tweet with his own message:
“Starting Monday 💪🏼💪🏼 #supportsmallbusiness #NVCF” Rodgers wrote on Twitter.
“We hold hundreds of individual funds, each embodying a community member’s dream for a better world,” the NVCF website states.
Rodgers has also made contributions toward the California wildfire relief efforts.
Aaron Rodgers Studied Alex Trebek to Prepare for ‘Jeopardy!’
It sounds like Aaron Rodgers is treating his two weeks as the guest host of Jeopardy! like it’s Green Bay Packers training camp. The All-Pro quarterback told ESPN in a recent phone interview that he has studied hours upon hours to get into the mind of the late Jeopardy! icon.
“I took pages and pages and pages of notes,” he explained. “I wrote down every affirmative that he said to any type of clue and wrote down how he would respond if they didn’t get it right.”
And if it is any indication, executives at Jeopardy! were thrilled with Rodgers dedication to his new role.
“One of the head producers said as much,” Rodgers told ESPN. “She was like, ‘I’m just so appreciative of your approach.’ And my whole thing was I felt like the best way to honor Alex’s memory was to be so dialed in and so ready, and that’s the approach I took. So I was ready to rock and roll.”
