Television personality Robin Roberts is the current guest host of “Jeopardy!” and today she is honoring the show’s most iconic figure.
Gone but certainly not forgotten is the legendary Alex Trebek, who stood by the “Jeopardy!” host podium for a long time. For 37 years, Alex Trebek served as the popular game show’s host and lead man. His time on the show turned him into a household name and one of the most recognizable faces in all of show business. With his subtle charm and graceful delivery, Trebek became an icon in the minds of television watchers. He was a larger-than-life figure but somehow managed to keep his immense humility and ego in check. The “Jeopardy!” legend passed away late last year at the age of 80. He long battled stage four pancreatic cancer and it took his life on November 8, 2020. In true Alex Trebek form, he kept hosting his beloved show right up until the end. He filmed his final episodes of “Jeopardy!” just days before passing away peacefully at his home and surrounded by family.
Today, on what would have been his 81st birthday, numerous public figures paid tribute to the late “Jeopardy!” legend. Roberts was one of many to take to social media to remember Trebek and his contributions to television and to the world. Here tribute appears on the “Jeopardy!” Instagram page and is very fitting.
‘Jeopardy!’ Guest Host Remembers the Late Alex Trebek
“Robin Roberts pays tribute to Alex Trebek, who would have celebrated his 81st birthday today,” the social media post states.
“Today is a special day, it is July 22nd and would have been Alex Trebek’s 81st birthday,” she says in the short video. “He was a kind, intelligent and philanthropic man — which is why I am incredibly proud to say that we have raised nearly $100,000 for Be The Match. That is dedicated to helping every patient get the life-saving transplant they need. Alex loved this game, so let us celebrate him and his legacy by playing the game that he loved.”
Fitting words from the current “Jeopardy!” guest host as Roberts will complete her hosting tenure with Friday’s episode. Robert’s chosen charity, Be The Match, is a registry of volunteer hematopoietic cell donors and umbilical cord blood units in the United States. It falls under the National Marrow Donor Program, a nonprofit with headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Roberts was far from the only person using social media to pay tribute to the late Alex Trebek. Many others celebrities and former “Jeopardy!” have also done the same.
Then “Good Morning America” co-host is the latest in a long line of celebrities that have stepped in to keep “Jeopardy!” on track. She will wrap up her guest-hosting tenure on Friday with television star LeVar Burton set to take on the role.
