Today is guest host and “Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts‘ first day on the job at “Jeopardy!” She shared some of her favorite behind-the-scenes moments from the set in a “GMA” segment this morning.
Roberts started off by complimenting co-anchor George Stephanopoulos‘ hosting skills from last week, saying he “set the bar really, really high for all of us.”
“I had a wonderful time,” Roberts said at the “GMA” desk. “It was stressful, but it was wonderful.”
In the first behind-the-scenes clip the “Jeopardy!” guest host shared, viewers could see her introduction for tonight’s first episode.
“I’m honored to be here guest hosting ‘Jeopardy!’ and paying tribute to the great Alex Trebek,” Roberts said. “Who I was blessed to get to know well over the years. And I have to say, his spirit is very much here.”
The segment then cut to several outtakes of Roberts at the “Jeopardy!” host podium, where she’s saying, “This is the first show, I have four more to go, so I don’t want to get ahead of myself. Just hoping to each time get a little bit better and a little bit better…”
In another outtake, Roberts faces the contestants and practices her introductions. “Our returning champion! I say it right?” she asks.
The clip also showed interviews with various contestants, who spoke about Roberts’ skill as a “Jeopardy!” guest host.
“She was great, she just brought a lot of positive energy to it,” said contestant Matt Amodi.
Returning champion Josh Saak said, “There is a certain presence associated with her and it’s magnetic.”
Finally, contestant Allison Pistorius said, “She has this knack for putting you at ease and making what could be a stressful and nervewracking situation fun and pleasant.”
Robin Roberts Thanks ‘Jeopardy!’ Crew for Their Work
When “Jeopardy!” talked to Roberts for her exclusive interview, they left out a few behind-the-scenes moments that Roberts included in the “GMA” segment.
In one clip, she said, “Alex made it look a lot easier… it’s not easy!”
She also talked about the transformation she noticed within herself over her time hosting the show.
“It was one of those lessons of life [where] you adventure outside your comfort zone,” Roberts said. “When I left my hotel room this morning, I was really, really nervous. And I’m leaving here with a lot more confidence in myself, that I put myself out there.”
Roberts called her time on “Jeopardy!” a “once in a lifetime experience” that she’ll forever remember. But she’ll also remember all the work the cast and crew put into the production to keep it moving.
“Oh, the ‘Jeopardy!’ family, supporting me every step of the way,” Roberts said in a voice-over. “And I got a front-row seat to all the hard work and dedication that goes into making this iconic show.”
At the very end of the “GMA” segment, Roberts also shared a clip of her addressing the cast and crew directly.
“You have magic here. What’s so great is that I know you know it, and that’s the beauty of it,” Roberts said. “So I will go back home, I’ll continue to cheer you all on, and thank you for continuing [Alex Trebek’s] legacy as you have.”
