‘Jeopardy!’ Guest Host Savannah Guthrie Posts New Selfie While Nursing ‘Unfortunate Pickleball Injury’

On Tuesday, current Jeopardy! host Savannah Guthrie posted a hilarious selfie on Instagram after injuring herself while playing pickleball.

There’s a lot to unpack in this simple and short social media post from Guthrie. “#internationalselfieday – nursing an unfortunate pickleball injury #TBT,” she wrote on Instagram.

First of all, who else didn’t know International Selfie Day is a thing? Assuming there’s a lot of hands raised out there. Evidently June 22 is a day to celebrate the modern photo-taking phenomenon that is the selfie. While camera phones have turned this into a common occurrence, the day encourages everyone to take a selfie and post it on social media.

Additionally, the Jeopardy! interim host shared in her selfie that she injured herself while playing pickleball. Again, if you’re wondering exactly what is pickleball, you’re not alone. The sport is played on a tennis-like court, and combines elements of badminton, table tennis, and tennis. Similar to tennis, you can play one-on-one, or two versus two.

Unfortunately, Guthrie seems to have hit her head while playing recently. However, she hilariously had a cold bottle of Hampton Water rose on hand to apply to her hurt head. The bottle looked fairly low on wine, so the current Jeopardy! host may have numbed the pain in more ways than one. Wouldn’t blame her if so.

‘Jeopardy!’ Host Savannah Guthrie Admires ‘How Much Excellence’ Alex Trebek Brought to Show

Early last week, Jeopardy! shared an exclusive interview with guest host Savannah Guthrie where she spoke about the game show’s legendary host Alex Trebek. For 37 seasons Trebek was a mainstay on the show watched and adored by countless fans.

Since the iconic Jeopardy! host’s death in November 2020, the game show has carried on with a mix of interims. They’ve used a rotating list of celebrity guest hosts, each taking a two-week stint behind the podium. It’s going to be a tough task to replace Trebek permanently, but the search is still on to find his successor.

Guthrie opened up about Trebek before her debut appearance last Monday. As part of her preparation for hosting Jeopardy!, Guthrie looked at Trebek and his legacy for inspiration.

“I think what I tried to do is I tried to approach it like I approach my job, which is to be prepared. To study hard, to care a lot, to work hard. I think that’s what Alex Trebek did every day,” Guthrie shared. “I really admire how much excellence he brought to it even though he did it decade after decade after decade. It seems to me he never slacked off, it never got easy for him. He always brought his A-game, and that’s the spirit I was trying to emulate.”
