’Jeopardy!’: Here’s the TV Ratings for Every Guest Host So Far

Since the passing of longtime host Alex Trebek, Jeopardy! has kept the train on the tracks by utilizing celebrity guest hosts.

Five well-known public figures have had tenures as guest hosts with each doing reasonably well. Former contestant Ken Jennings, executive director Mike Richards, talk show host Dr. Mehmet Oz, NFL star Aaron Rodgers and journalist Katie Couric have each taken turns behind the Jeopardy! host’s podium. With the exception of Jennings, who got six weeks, each of the guest hosts had two-week tenures on the show. Hosting responsibilities are currently in the hands of journalist Anderson Cooper, who will complete his tenure this Friday.

Each of the celebrity guest hosts have managed to keep the show’s rigorous pace through their tenures. There is, however, disparity in the ratings that each of the celebrities has drawn during their stints. Let’s take a look at the Nielsen ratings to see who has been the fan-favorite so far.

Jeopardy! Nielsen Ratings Breakdown

Jennings, the most successful game show contestant of all time, once won 74-straight episodes of Jeopardy! competition. He was expected to be a fan favorite going into guest-hosting duties and he did not disappoint. He was the first to step in for the late and great Trebek and did an admirable job. Jennings scored a 6 on the Nielsen rating, good for first place among guest hosts.

On the other end of the spectrum, Dr. Oz, host of “The Dr. Oz Show” didn’t do so hot. He came in last among Jeopardy! hosts, managing only a 5.1 rating on the Nielsen scale. Though he performed well, his rating isn’t a shock as many complained about his selection as guest host. A petition was even started in an attempt to have him removed.

Before Oz’s run as host, Mike Richards took hold of the Jeopardy! hosting job and did an admirable job. He took a rating of 5.9, which put his score in second place behind Jennings.

After ratings plummeted during Oz’s host stint, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was able to rally. With Rodgers at the Jeopardy! wheel, ratings saw a massive uptick. He scored a 5.6 rating on the Nielsen scale, giving him a sold third place among guest hosts.

Finally, Katie Couric was able to steady the ship and collect a respectable 5.5 score in the Nielsen ratings. She finishes just behind Rodgers in fourth place among guest hosts.

Journalist Bill Whitaker and former contestant Buzzy Cohen are waiting in the Jeopardy! wings for their hosting shots. Show officials also revealed the next crop of hosts last week and it includes fan-favorite, LeVar Burton.
