Mayim Bialik may be the busiest game show host in the business. In addition to hosting “Jeopardy!” in the wake of the Mike Richards debacle, Bialik plays the lead role on a Fox comedy that has found success. Season 2 of “Call Me Kat” was announced in the spring, now we have a premiere date.

Per TV Line, the sitcom’s second season will premiere on January 9. There was some intrigue surrounding the show when it got renewed. Showrunner Darlene Hunt, who presided over the sitcom for Season 1, didn’t return. Instead, Alissa Neubauer of “Two and a Half Men” and “Mom” producing fame stepped in.

For Mayim Bialik, however, not much has changed. Her Kat character will return to the screen managing her cafe. The comedy revolves around Kat, a 39-year old woman who invests her wedding money in a concept cafe in Louisville, Kentucky. The concept? Cats. That’s right. The “Jeopardy!” host’s character owns and operates Kat’s Cafe, cats welcome.

However, one big difference for Season 2 of “Call Me Kat” is Bialik’s other job. Before all of the drama with Mike Richards went down, Bialik was still going to host “Jeopardy!” for special things like the Tournament of Champions. The full-time hosting job was a hard sell as she had other TV obligations. But with Richards out as host, someone had to step up.

Mayim Bialik has been hosting “Jeopardy!” for the better part of two months now. She has presided over one of the most historic runs in the show’s history with contestant Matt Amodio. And it looks as if another big-time streak could be in the making with current contestant Jonathan Fisher.

Fortunately, help is on the way. Ken Jennings will reportedly split hosting time with Bialik come November.

Could ‘Jeopardy!’ Tap Mayim Bialik as the Permanent Host Moving Forward?

Busy as her schedule is, Mayim Bialik may not see Ken Jennings’ addition to “Jeopardy!” as helpful at all. Of course, there’s no bad blood between the two, but Bialik has gone on record stating that she would love to become the permanent host of “Jeopardy!”

“There’s no other job I would rather have. I love my sitcom work, I do. I love all the other things I do, I love the podcast. But I absolutely have never had a better job. … The use of my brain and my skillset feels best suited by this job on ‘Jeopardy!’ It is a dream job. I think it’s a dream job for anyone, but especially for someone who is trained first as a performer and then as a science communicator,” Bialik told The Hollywood Reporter in September.

It’s hard to argue with her experience. She is a Ph.D.-holding, sitcom-leading personality uniquely equipped for a knowledge-based entertainment job. There’s no guarantee it’ll land her the permanent role, and given everything that’s happened on “Jeopardy!” recently, we’re not even going to attempt a guess as to who will take over in 2022.
