The author and illustrator who is responsible for creating the “Clifford the Big Red Dog” is Norman Bridwell. He was born in Indiana during February 1928. The first “Clifford” book debuted in the early 1960s. Emily, the girl who owns Clifford, was named after Bridwell’s own daughter. Bridwell passed away during December 2014. He was 86 years old at the time of his death.
