With the passing of longtime host Alex Trebek, the popular quiz show Jeopardy! is employing a slew of guest hosts.

Dr. Mehmet Oz, host of “The Doctor Oz Show,” is up next and began his reign as guest host yesterday (Monday). Oz will continue hosting for the next two weeks with his final episode as host airing on Friday, April 2.

Oz is the fourth celebrity to take on the role of Jeopardy! host. The doctor has won 10 Daytime Emmy Awards for his work on the Dr. Oz Show. On the show, he dispenses medical and health advice to a live audience and millions watching on television. In addition to his show hosting duties, Oz is also an attending physician at Presbyterian-Columbia Medical Center. He has authored over 400 original publications, book chapters, and medical books, has received numerous patents, and still performs heart surgery. He has also authored eight New York Times best-selling books, according to his Jeopardy! biography.

‘Jeopardy!’ Moving On With Celebrity Guest Hosts

Oz and Trebek were good friends before the latter’s passing in late 2020. Trebek died after losing his battle with pancreatic cancer on November 8. Oz, who filmed his episodes earlier this year in January, admitted to being nervous about taking on hosting duties for Jeopardy!.

“Never in my wildest dreams thought I’d be able to come on this stage and host this show,” he says in a recent interview.

He took to social media on Monday to express his excitement over the beginning of his Jeopardy! tenure.

“Tonight (and for the next two weeks), I have the great honor and privilege of guest hosting Jeopardy!,” he says in the post. “Make sure to tune in.”

Dr. Oz is the fourth Jeopardy! guest host with three other celebrities assuming hosting duties before him. Former contestant Ken Jennings, Executive Producer Mike Richards and journalist Katie Couric have each taken a turn hosting the game show. Reigning NFL MVP and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will take his turn as Jeopardy! host after Oz. Journalist Anderson Cooper, Journalist Savannah Guthrie, Actress Mayim Bialik, Journalist Bill Whitaker and Dr. Sanjay Gupta will also serve as hosts.
