The Chase features three of the greatest champions in Jeopardy! Now, it’s adding to its trio with a “new” Chaser, Mark Labbett.

For those who didn’t watch the original British version of The Chase, Labbett was the original “chaser.” Before the two American versions ever existed, Labbett was testing challengers in the U.K., before appearing on the first American version as well.

Now, the 55-year-old is joining Jeopardy! legends Ken Jennings, James Holzhauer and Brad Rutter for ABC’s rendition. And, as one might expect, the boys are already ribbing each other.

Both Ken Jennings and Holzhauer are known to be active Twitter users with hilarious posts. While Labbett boasts 144,000 followers, he doesn’t quite match Holzhauer or Jennings. Plus, regardless of follower count, the pair are known for their quick wits on the app.

So when Labbett took a light jab at the Jeopardy!-produced trio, Holzhauer didn’t hesitate to respond.

After Labbett replied to the show’s official account with, “One Titan and three ordinary mortals :),” The former Jeopardy! champ hit him with a promo image that doesn’t feature Labbett. And to top it off, he added, “Big words from Mr. Not Pictured.”

The Chase is all about contestants facing off against the hosts, but it’s clear there’s a little bit of a rivalry for the guys at the top. Considering they’re all some of the best trivia pros in the world, that only feels right.

However, Holzhauer didn’t stop there.

Jeopardy! Legend James Holzhauer Goes in for More

The context of Labbett’s role on the various The Chase shows is important not just for the first Holzhauer joke, but also the second.

Back in 2014, Holzhauer actually competed on the Game Show Network’s edition of the show. And, as competitors do, he got to face off with “The Beast.” This was before his legendary Jeopardy! run in 2019 that saw him shatter various records.

Not only did Holzhauer compete against, he excelled. He set a record for the GSN show for most amount of right answers in one episode and defeated Labbett. So of course Holzhauer was going to bring up past memories.

“NOBODY BEATS THE BEAST,” Holzhauer mocked with a questioning emoji.

Labbett threw the first stone, but Holzhauer had a pile of rocks ready to respond. If this interaction is any preview for the The Chase‘s new season, fans will be in for a treat.
