“Antonio… Thank you for your loyalty,” ‘Jeopardy!’s Ken Jennings lauds in light of the footage. Within, tiny 3-year-old ‘Jeopardy!’ fan Antonio is visibly very upset by Jennings’ absence from the show.
“I have some compelling evidence in support of the case to make @KenJennings the permanent host of @Jeopardy,” Antonio’s mother Yvette posts to Twitter Tuesday.
“My 3 year old nephew wasn’t pleased when he realized Ken’s guest host stint was over,” she continues. And the proof is in the pudding. Right before our eyes, little Antonio melts down once ‘Jeopardy!’ hits the family television… and Ken Jennings is nowhere to be found.
“It’s not… it’s not…” Antonio cries at the table.
“It’s not what, buddy? It’s not Ken Jennings?” his father asks.
We miss him on ‘Jeopardy!’, too, little one. Count this author amongst the many that agree with you. Ken Jennings is the perfect man to continue the legacy of his mentor, Alex Trebek.
Will ‘Jeopardy!’s Ken Jennings Come Back?
Antonio wants to know! And so do we.
Okay, so that wasn’t quite a tantrum, was it? In fact, little Antonio seems genuinely upset that Ken Jennings isn’t around for the long haul on ‘Jeopardy!’. At least not yet.
So what are the odds of Jennings becoming the game show’s permanent host? Fan outcry has been strong for the “All Time Champ” to continue on in Trebek’s footsteps. Yet it’s not up to fans to decide, unfortunately. Instead, that job falls to ‘Jeopardy!’s producer, Mike Richards.
Consider it excellent news then, Jennings fans, that Richards himself thinks “Ken did an amazing job!”
“That’s why we picked him to do it,” the producer told Today in a February interview.
In fact, Richards admitted that Jennings “did better than I thought,” after noting his expectations were “incredibly high.”
“Our fans, our staff and crew are all familiar with him. He came out, said the right things, was humbled by the situation, addressed the elephant in the room right away and said no one’s going to replace Alex, and they’re not. It’s a fool’s errand,” Richards continued of the “All Time Champ”.
For what it’s worth – which is a lot – ‘Jeopardy!’s producer and fellow guest host believes jennings was “the perfect person to come onto the stage after Alex… Ken hosted the show as Ken,” he added, and viewers couldn’t ask for more than that.
Fans of the American institution do still, however, have quite the wait on their hands until the show’s new, permanent host is announced. Richards added in the same interview that any “new face of ‘Jeopardy!’” won’t be selected until the beginning of Season 38 in September 2021.
