It seems like “Jeopardy!” fans can’t get enough of former guest host Ken Jennings. Following the tragic passing of longtime host Alex Trebek, fans are now anxiously awaiting the network’s announcement of who will take their permanent position behind the iconic lectern.
At the beginning of 2021, the classic quiz show has been using a series of guest hosts, including Jennings, who recently finished his six-week stint before handing over the baton to “Jeopardy!” executive producer, Mike Richards. So far, fans have given Richards high marks for his hosting duties, but fans are split between who they prefer to see as the permanent host. On Sunday, Jennings responded to a fan’s tweet in which they hinted at boycotting the show if the network didn’t bring back Jennings as host.
“Well, know we are not watching anything on ABC7 in New York until you are properly back on Jeopardy! for good,” one user wrote, making sure to tag Jennings.
Yet Jennings was quick to respond, urging the user not to boycott the beloved show. “This is a very kind show of support but please: do not boycott Jeopardy! If you do that, you miss Jeopardy!”
‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Call For Network to Name Ken Jennings Permanent Host
The user isn’t the only one calling for Jennings’ return. On social media, users have erupted with calls to hand over the hosting gig to Jennings. “Ken deserves the job – he is the perfect host!” one fan wrote. “Ken has Alex’s jeopardy vibe. They’re bonded. Their foundation is jeopardy. BRING BACK OUR KEN,” another posted.
With a full lineup of guest hosts scheduled, including Katie Couric, Anderson Cooper, and Aaron Rogers, it seems like the show plans to play the long game when it comes to naming a host. However, regardless of who gets named host, it will most definitely be impossible for them to leave behind a legacy in the way Trebek did.
“It still seems surreal,” Jennings shared about the duties of guest hosting in a behind-the-scenes video. “It goes beyond nervous, it was a very intense and nerve-wracking experience to be behind this lectern.”
Richards also made sure to pay tribute to Trebek. “[Trebek] was everything you could hope for and more,” Richards said his second night of hosting. “He was an idol of mine, and I will work every day to try to live up to the example he set.”
