The “Jeopardy!” Tournament of Champions is locked in for May, with 2017 winner Buzzy Cohen set to guest host. As major figures in the game show world, it’s no surprise that Buzzy and Ken Jennings have each other’s numbers. And Jennings wasted no time in texting his colleague to help him with his brand.
The two “Jeopardy!” men shared a hilarious text exchange and Jennings posted a snippet of it to Twitter.
“They were like ‘why is this jazz age accountant hosting?’” Cohen texted. “I’m screenshotting that for social media use in a month,” Jennings replied.
Buzzy pokes fun at his own appearance, and Jennings appreciates the joke so much that he couldn’t even wait a month to use it on social media.
“The ghost of harold lloyd has some unfinished business: hosting america’s favorite quiz show™” Cohen texted.
Harold Lloyd was an actor in the first half of the 20th century. Buzzy Cohen just so happens to bear an uncanny resemblance to the old-time actor. Glasses and all.
“*Johnny Gilbert voice* And here’s the guest host of Jeopardy, or possibly a steampunk bar mitzvah,” Jennings joked back.
The ‘Jeopardy!’ Tournament of Champions
From May 17-28, 15 of the best “Jeopardy!” contestants from the previous year will compete against each other for a prize of $250,000.
In holding with the game show’s recent commitment to charity donations, “Jeopardy!” will match that amount and give it to the Hope of the Valley Trebek Center for the Homeless.
Buzzy Cohen himself is no stranger to the tournament he’s set to host. He won it back in 2017. But one of the drawbacks to being involved as host is that Cohen won’t be allowed to compete on the quiz show again. Hardly a problem for someone who is already such an accomplished “Jeopardy!” player.
Another Name in the Running for Permanent Host?
Buzzy Cohen has expressed interest in hosting the show. He’ll have a chance to prove himself come May, but if all goes well, will he throw his hat in the ring with the likes of Ken Jennings and Aaron Rodgers for the permanent gig?
Jennings, a consulting producer on the show, has said that there will be a permanent host in place by next season.
Plenty of guest hosts have yet to take the stage, and for all we know, it’s still anybody’s game.
Good luck out there, Buzzy.
