Former “Jeopardy!” champion Ken Jennings is largely considered the greatest game show contestant of all time.
In fact, Jennings won a special edition of “Jeopardy!” just last to earn “GOAT” status among the show’s best. He dispatched James Holzhauer and Brad Rutter in the 2020 “Greatest of All Time” matchup to claim the status. His historic run on “Jeopardy!” began in 2004, when he rewrote the game show record books. Jennings rattled off 74 straight victories before his winning streak came to an end. He won well over $2 million during his initial run on the show. As if that weren’t enough, he’s come back to the show to claim even more titles and win more cash. All told, “Jeopardy!” has made Ken Jennings a rich man as he’s won more than $4 million via his game show triumphs. Oh yeah…and he’s also now co-hosting the show that made him a millionaire.
But, for as great a “Jeopardy!” player as Ken Jennings was and is, even he can’t help but get caught up in the Matt Amodio hysteria. He’s even seeing the most recent “Jeopardy!” champion of note in the word games that he plays. In his most recent Twitter post, Jennings gives Amodio a shout-out when he’s unable to play his name in a word game.
“Very Disrespectful,” he says jokingly in his social media post.
Ken Jennings certainly isn’t the only one seeing Matt Amodio as the recent “Jeopardy!” champion came as close to Jennings’s record as anyone ever has.
‘Jeopardy!’ Champions Have Formed Unique Bond
Matt Amodio is coming off a historic “Jeopardy!” run of his own with many thinking he could catch Jennings. Amodio won 38 straight episodes of the popular quiz show with his final match just last week. Through his winning streak, Amodio racked up more than $1.5 million in winnings. He was defeated last Monday by “Jeopardy!” newcomer Jonathan Fisher, who has his own streak of seven wins going. Amodio was very popular among fans of the game show for the same reasons that Jennings is so loved by fans. His subtle charm, humble attitude and unassuming personality are exactly what fans want out of their champions.
Amodio has noted several times how that he idolizes Ken Jennings for his “Jeopardy!” success. With Amodio now right up there with them, the trio of Rutter, Holzhauer and Jennings will have to find room for a fourth member of the exclusive club. The trio is famous for their barbs launched over social media but they remain great friends behind the scenes. It is a unique bond that the “Jeopardy!” greats all share.
While we would all love to see it, it’s unlikely we will ever see an Amodio-Jennings “Jeopardy!” showdown. Jennings is barred from competing on the show after serving as host.
