Late Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek’s memory continues to live on in a handwritten note that the show featured in the “Alphabet Rockers and Rapper” category.
Last night, the game show posted on social media a handwritten note by beloved host Alex Trebek who died in early November of 2020. Trebek received a grime stage IV pancreatic cancer diagnosis, which he announced to Jeopardy! fans on March 6, 2019.
Alex Trebek served as the host of Jeopardy! for 37 seasons, and despite his battle with cancer, Trebek signed a contract to host the game show until 2022.
In the tweet from last night, the show said that Trebek was the “rock star” for his list of seven “alphabet rockers.”
“Alex was the rock star behind today’s ALPHABET ROCKERS & RAPPERS category, as seen from his handwritten note. Thank you, Alex.”
The note features bands such as rockers ZZ Top, AC/DC, rapper LL Cool J, Run-DMC, ABBA, ELO, and E Street Band.
Many users and fans of the show commented on their love for Trebek, saying that “His DNA will be forever intertwined with Jeopardy.”
Ken Jennings Honors Alex Trebek
Previous contestant, “Greatest of All Time” champion, and interim host Ken Jennings also posted to Twitter about the note. He jokes about how hip Alex Trebek was for “repping” hip hop and rap groups even at the age of 80.
“The great Alex Trebek: repping L.L. and Run-DMC into his 80s.”
Ken Jennings has served as the host of Jeopardy! since January 11, often paying tribute to his friend and mentor, Alex Trebek.
The show is testing out a number of new hosts, with Jennings’s time ending on Friday. Although the 46-year-old genius was inexperienced at the position, the audience seemed to love him with constantly strong ratings. In his debut week, Jennings racked in an average of 10.3 million viewers. This is the best ratings this season, besides Alex Trebek’s final week.
The upcoming line of guest hosts that will proceed after Alex Trebek and Ken Jennings is Mike Richards from Feb. 22-March 5 and Katie Couric from March 8-18. Other hosts that have been announced are Dr. Mehmet Oz, Aaron Rodgers, Savanna Guthrie, Anderson Cooper, Mayim Bialik, Bill Whitaker, and Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Their dates have yet to be announced but are sure to be interesting.
