On July 2, the Mariners begin a three-game series against the Texas Rangers at home. Seattle’s T-Mobile Park tweeted about Friday’s game, including the fact that it will be the first full capacity game of the season. In addition, it will be the first night the stadium will have fireworks shoot off after the game.
Jennings, a lifelong and die-hard Mariners fan, saw the stadium’s post. He made sure to remind his fans and Twitter followers that he’d be in attendance. Yet he won’t be just watching the game like most days he attends games. Tomorrow night Jennings has the honor of throwing out the first pitch to kick off the game.
The Seattle native is a bit of a local hero in the area. The former Jeopardy! champion is arguably the greatest player in the popular game show’s history. He’s won multiple special events on the trivia show, including Jeopardy!‘s “Greatest of All Time” tournament. Additionally, Jennings still holds the record for consecutive victories with his 74-game win streak.
Ken Jennings shared that he’d be throwing out the first pitch. But in his humorous way, he added that it wouldn’t be just any normal pitch. If he’s not completely joking, he’s going with a tricky baseball pitch called a knuckleball. The pitch is thrown much slower than normal and the spin on the ball is almost nonexistent. This causes an erratic and unpredictable motion on the ball, which can be very difficult to hit. Not to doubt Jennings, but we’re not so sure he’s got a knuckleball in his repertoire.
“I’m throwing out the first pitch tomorrow! Might try a knuckler,” the Jeopardy! champ amusingly tweeted.
‘Jeopardy!’ Icon Ken Jennings Shows Off Seattle Mariners Fandom During 2021 Opening Day
On April 1, the Jeopardy! icon was clearly pumped up for the 2021 MLB Opening Day games. Naturally, he was super excited for the beginning of the Seattle Mariners’ season and their first game. Even though Seattle has struggled in recent MLB history, Ken Jennings isn’t a fair-weather fan.
In fact, Jennings marked the occasion by wearing his Mariners gear and showing it off on social media. The Jeopardy! champion is seen standing outside with a scenic view in the background. Of course, he’s wearing a Mariners hoodie and ball cap. The longtime Seattle fan also hilariously joked he’d be filling in as the team’s starting shortstop for their opening day game.
“Looks like it’s going to be a beautiful night for @Mariners baseball. (I am starting at shortstop.) #SeaUsRise,” Jennings wrote on Twitter.
