To put it simply, Ken Jennings is a very smart guy. So, when the legendary “Jeopardy!” champion offers an opinion on anything, people have a tendency to sit up and pay attention.
On Thursday, March 11, Jennings took to Twitter to offer a humorous take on the popular show “The Masked Singer.”
“Masked Singer prediction: the giant sea turtle is actually the 1993 Phoenix Suns,” Jennings posted. Check out the tweet below.
Fans of Ken Jennings were quick to respond to his tweet about “The Masked Singer.”
“The most entertaining part of the show is watching its viewers guess that the person under the mask is a prominent, respected celebrity, like Jack Nicholson or Barack Obama, but it’s actually an unemployed backup singer from a 90’s boy band or a muppet,” one fan said in response to Jennings’ tweet.
Some of the responses included NBA references. Here’s one example of that: “So they’ll call penalties nonstop against them to ensure Jordan wins.” Here’s another example: “…in which case they will have an absolutely absurd number of fouls called in their favor, allowing them to advance over a better whatever-other-thing-is-left.” There was also this basketball-themed response: “It’s KJ, Ceballos and Thunder Dan!”
One fan disagreed and offered another suggestion for who is behind the giant sea turtle mask. “That’s funny because I thought it was The Jackson Five!!!”
Another fan accused Ken Jennings of trying to keep fans of the singing competition from considering him as an option for the voice behind the giant sea turtle. “Nice fake out attempt. We know it’s really you in there,” this fan said.
‘Jeopardy!’ Star Ken Jennings References Very Successful Phoenix Suns NBA Basketball Team
The 1993 Phoenix Suns were a pretty great NBA team. They are worthy of a mention by a “Jeopardy!” champion.
The roster included legendary players such as Charles Barkley, Danny Ainge, Kevin Johnson, Dan Majerle, Cedric Ceballos, and even Kurt Rambis. The team was coached by Paul Westphal.
They finished the 1992-1993 NBA regular season with an overall record of 62-20. Those Phoenix Suns made it all the way to the NBA Finals where they were defeated in six games by Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.
So, what message was “Jeopardy!” legend Ken Jennings sending when he compared the giant sea turtle on “The Masked Singer” to that very successful Phoenix Suns NBA team? It’s difficult to say.
Does he think the singer is the best one remaining on the show, but will fall short of winning the ultimate prize? Does Jennings think the giant sea turtle is a legendary celebrity? Is Jennings suggesting that an NBA star is the voice behind the giant sea turtle? Who knows. We will all just have to watch the show and monitor the “Jeopardy!” champion’s Twitter account to find out.
