Mayim Bialik is not a new face for anyone who has watched television in the past thirty years. She was the star of the teen sitcom Blossom back in the nineties. Then, she played Sheldon’s love interest in The Big Bang Theory. Most recently she starred in the Fox sitcom Call Me Kat. So, Bialik is a familiar face.

However, Mayim Bialik is more than just an actress. She also holds a Ph.D. in neuroscience from UCLA. So, she would probably make a great Jeopardy! contestant. Unfortunately, we’ll probably never get to see the Blossom star buzzing in alongside other contestants. On the other hand, we will get to see how she does behind the iconic show’s legendary lectern.

Mayim Bialik’s two-week stint as the quiz show’s latest guest-host kicks off tomorrow, May 31st. Like other guest-hosts, she did a short interview with the Jeopardy! crew to talk about the gig and what it meant to her. At one point, she talked about what prepared her for the role.

What Prepared Mayim Bialik for Her Jeopardy! Guest-Host Stint

During the guest-host interview, they asked Mayim Bialik what she felt prepared her for her guest-hosting stint. They wanted to know if she felt that her acting career or her education made her feel more equipped to take the job.

Mayim Bialik said it was a bit of both. However, it was more than that. She began her answer by jokingly saying, “I think growing up with two crazy parents really made me equipped to do this.” Then, she gets a little more serious. She said that her parents were both public school teachers as well as documentary filmmakers and artists. They taught her to learn as much as she could about everything. That unique upbringing, Mayim says, is what truly drives her.

She goes on to say that her acting career is also a big help. “I think that being an actor and a performer is really, really helpful for this.” That career gave Mayim Bialik some of the skills needed behind the lectern. However, she learned the ability to think on her feet, move quickly, and articulate a wide variety of things from, “being raised by [her] awesome parents.”

So, being a neuroscientist as well as an acclaimed actress helped some. However, the biggest influence on Mayim Bialik was her parents and the way they raised her.

Be sure to check Bialik out on upcoming episodes of Jeopardy! to see how she does behind the lectern.
