‘Jeopardy!’: Mayim Bialik Reportedly Wants to Take Mike Richards Slot as Full-Time Host Under One Condition

Following the news that Mike Richards has officially stepped down as full-time host of CBS’ long-time running game show, Jeopardy!, rumors have begun circulating about Mayim Bialik wanting the full-time host position. But only under one condition.

As previously reported, Bialik was selected to be the host of Jeopardy! for the show’s specials. Richards was originally set to post the daily games. According to the Hollywood Reporter, it seems like Bialik is actually interested in taking on the daily host duties, but her schedule may cause some issues. She would take the position if they’re willing to work around her scheduling conflicts.

Since Richards is departing from Jeopardy!, Bialik will be the first guest host for the show as CBS resumes its search for a permanent host. Speaking about the new opportunity, she wrote on Twitter, “Happy to be of service to my Jeopardy! family. There’s no place I’d rather be!”

Mayim Bialik Talks Pressure of Guest Hosting ‘Jeopardy!’

Earlier this year, Bialik opened up to People about the pressure she experienced while guest-hosting Jeopardy! “There’s a lot of responsibility that falls on the host. I think also there’s a lot of iconic pressure.”

Bialik also shared that when she was looking over some of the Jeopardy! script, she was thinking about how long-time co-host Alex Trebek would make various statements. “And that’s probably not who I’m expected to be. Alex Trebek. But in my head, I am Alex Trebek – that’s who I want to be.”

Bialik shared there’s actually a lot of responsibility that comes with the gig. “The idea is not to bring my personality to Jeopardy! It’s to provide a service as the host for those episodes to the best of my ability,” she explained. the Big Bang Theory star also jokingly noted that she is also mostly there to rock a blazer.

“It’s funny because there are different kinds of smart. Jeopardy! smart is a category that I’m not really,” Bialik explained.  “I have a specific group of knowledge that I can handle, but I think every single time if I was a contestant, I would forget to phrase the answer as a question.”

In regards to what category she “excels” in, Bialik added that science or biblical history categories are her go to’s. “[I will] pretend like I know all the answers regardless.”

Was Bialik a Huge Fan of ‘Jeopardy!’ Growing Up?

Despite not necessarily being a huge Jeopardy! fan growing up, Bialik said her experience as guest host was still very exciting. “It wasn’t like, a cultural cornerstone of my parents’ and my life growing up. But obviously, I watched it. I’ve been an answer, I think two or three times. Which is crazy.”

Bialik then admitted that the experience was one of the most “iconic” things that she’s ever had done in her career. “It’s going to feel like Forrest Gump like I’ve been inserted into the Jeopardy! set.”
