Richards will be taking over as the permanent host of the syndicated game show, which Alex Trebek hosted for 37 years. He is also the executive producer of both “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune.”
“The Big Bang Theory” star will then host the primetime and spinoff series associated with the show. This includes the upcoming “Jeopardy! National College Championship.”
It seems like “Jeopardy!” executives decided that two is better than one and this solution would provide the best of both worlds. Even popular champion, Ken Jennings, is coming back as a consulting producer for the show.
Mayim Bialik Excitement Over ‘Jeopardy!’ Role
Mayim Bialik recently took to Twitter to share her excitement over landing the “Jeopardy!” job. She wrote, “IT’S TRUE!!! Been waiting a long time to tell you all. Really really honored and astounded and excited for this – it’s beyond anything I ever imagined could happen.”
Bialik notes that she’s been waiting a long time to tell her fans and fans of the long-running program. Meanwhile, it has seemed like selecting a host for the show has been kept very hush-hush. Most guest hosts had no idea what was going on with the selection process, according to what they had been saying.
News of a potential new host came out just a few days ago when Variety announced that Mike Richards was in the final stages of discussing his future with the program. However, Bialik and Jennings’ involvement comes as a complete surprise.
Bialik’s Brand New Gig
Bialik was incredibly enthusiastic during her stint as a guest host and made it known hosting the show would be the opportunity of a lifetime. Now she’s just as thrilled that it is in fact a reality.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to join the Jeopardy! family. What started out with my 15-year-old repeating a rumor from Instagram that I should guest host the show has turned into one of the most exciting and surreal opportunities of my life! I’m so grateful and excited to continue to work with Mike Richards, and I’m just over the moon to join forces with him and Sony. After all the conversations we’ve had about this partnership, I am just so ready to get started!” Bialik said to Deadline.
She will be adding “Jeopardy!” host to her long list of accomplishments. In addition to “The Big Bang Theory,” Bialik also stars in the Fox show, “Call Me Kat.” She is also the host of a mental health-focused podcast called “Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown.” Bialik also wrote and directed her first-ever feature film, “As Sick As They Made Us.”
Although she’s got a lot on her plate, Bialik is more than willing to make time for a part-time gig with “Jeopardy!”
Bialik is celebrating the now-viral news, which is trending at the No. 1 spot on Twitter. She briefly went live on Instagram.
“My head is splitting, totally hurts. I am excited and have gotten a lot of texts and emails …” Bialik said in the three-minute-long video.
